I still have the bike I bought in 79 Its a Carlton Criterium Weinmann 610 centre pull brakes after a couple of years riding it I upgraded to a set of Campy record hubs laced to Ambrosio extra 19 rims I must have road that bike10,000 miles with a miniumum of 20 miles a day I toured on it till in 87 I bought a celeste Bianchi Frame set to take its place The Carlton went onto the indoor trainer

Does 29 years count? The frame and fork were found in my parents attic about 3 years ago, stripped and spray painted by my brother who knows when. I have since restored it.

This is my 1973 Fuji Finest that I bought new while I was in college. I bought this for $300 which was about the same amount of money for one semester of my college tuition. When my father found out that I spent this amount of money for this bike, he was very upset with me. I felt some what guilty after that so I took good care of the bike while putting on a lot of miles using it as my primary mode of getting around.
I still ride it frequently. I upgraded from the original Suntour components (still have them in a box) to Campagnolo. Overall a great comfortable ride.

I will in 2016 when my Ciocc turns 30.
Edit: The Campy crankarms on my Ciocc came off my old Raleigh Pro purchased in 1977, so they're over 30 years old even if the rest of the bike isn't.

I have not kept them all but still have bikes that I purchased new in 1974, 1975, 1988.
A few I regret selling too. But at the time the cash was needed elsewhere more.

I'll bump this old thread to show my 41 year old Super sport. Bought it to deliver newspapers and get around town a year or so before I got my drivers license. I rode it for a few years, put it away, restored it in about 1982 or so when my kids were young and put a baby seat on it, rode it a few years and put it away again. Recently got it back in riding shape, I'll honestly never get rid of this bike. I've bought several newer bikes over the years but never could part with this one.

Original owner 1983 Lotus Legend
I bought this Lotus Legend new in 1983. It is still mostly original equipped, with the exceptions being the pump, pedals, clips, and handlebar foam. I'm ashamed to say I didn't even wear out the original tires. It needs a little TLC including a rubber bolt cover for the Dia Compe brake, brake hoods, and a valve stem cap. I located a replacement water bottle from VintageLotusBikes after my threw my original one away about 5 years ago. She didn't realize it went to the bike and it was my fault for not keeping it on the bike. The picture was taken before I got the replacement bottle.

I'm not familiar with those brake levers, but your best bet might be Ebay if you're intent on finding the correct hoods. There is also a for sale sub-forum here, which you may have found already. A company called Cane Creek makes some aftermarket hoods, but they tend to focus on the very common models of brake levers. To help you identify exactly what model of brake levers you have, if you don't know already, try velobase.com.
Any bike shop or fellow bike enthusiast should be able to help you out with a valve stem cap. Speaking of which, where in Illinois? I'm currently "passing through" the southwest burbs of Chi.

I bought my Nishiki Cresta new in 1982 from the Tempe Bicycle shop in Arizona. It was a birthday present from my dad for my 20th birthday (he was in California, and I was going to school at ASU so he told me to go find a new bike I liked and he would pay for it. Thanks Dad!).
Last year, I completed a major resto-mod on the bike for my 50th birthday. Today is my 51st birthday, the bike turns 31, and I am still the proud owner of this fine machine

I have two--a 1971 Gitane TdF (similar to the above) that I stupidly had repainted years ago, after adding a brazed-on derailleur hanger, cable guides, etc. I really wish I'd left it alone, but it still rides great. The hubs, frame, and headset are original, but that's it, I think.
Also a 1979 Motobecane Super Mirage that I have since passed on to my Brooklynite son. I remember just when I bought it: I was 25 years and three weeks old. Coincidentally, the day I gave it to my son to take to New York, he was also 25 years and three weeks old. It just happened that way.
I think I've posted photos of at least one and maybe both bikes before. They look like you'd expect them to.
