Did finally go off at about 6 p.m. But we got very lucky. Seemed localized, north side of the Cape. Was back on at about 11 p.m. Sure could have been worse. Lots of small debris and branches around, but no real damage. I can't imagine what a real cat 2 or 3 would be like. Went outside for a bit last night and it was plenty scary. Still, thoughts go out to those that got it worse.

The Cape got lucky. Seems to have veered west of here. Couple of big trees down on 6A. Good luck CapeCodder.

Bikes: Too many Bicycles to list

OK what did I miss, just getting back on line we lost power at 6:30 Sat night due to heavy rain as the wind hadn't kicked in yet-------------------and never did until Sunday at 1:00pm way after the storm had passed we started getting 50-60mph wind gusts that rocked me asleep after staying up all night waiting for the storm. I am glad everyone made it through ok. Our power didn't return until 2:30 this morning and this is the first place I came to when I woke this am. I haven't had time to drive around yet but I know a few trees are down on a few houses as I was able to listen to the local police & Fire dept on my weather radio Sat night & early Sun morning.

Things did not go well here in Greenville, NC: a tree smashed one corner of my roof, and several more came down in the yard. Nobody's hurt (and no bikes damaged), but it'll be a while before we get back to normal. Lots of people in my town have lost much more than I have, though, so I won't complain. Carry on!

I'm there right now. Sucks, actually.
No power yet, got kicked outof the hotel room (already booked). Will stay at the homestead tonight.

EDIT: Power at 7:02 pm. Home DSL is kaput. Business DSL is working.

Rob, glad you got power back. We just got power late afternoon yesterday, so we were only out for 36 hours. Glad it's summer, not winter, as we have a well and oil heat. We're also lucky we're at a high elevation, so no flooding to speak of at our house. However, several major highways in the area have had washouts and are closed for the foreseeable future. Traffic is an absolute nightmare. The Passaic river is also scheduled to crest later today, so many other towns and cities to the east are likely to see more flooding. What a mess.

On a personal, trivial note, I had a disappointing bike related incident. Just finished rebuilding a bike for my brother (not vintage) and was transporting it to him on a roof rack. The handlebars caught a low hanging cable wire and ripped the rack from my car and did some damage to the bike. Understandably, the police wouldn't send an officer to write up a property damage report. Was told to visit the station today, which I may do.

Hang in there Velognome. The extent of flood damage in the area is unbelievable. And don't go walking in the water like your neighbor.

Oof, finally back on the internet, wow! We got through the storm pretty well here. About 13" of rain fell, measured by the drywall mud bucket I left in my back yard. Lots of rain and lots of wind, followed by no more rain but still lots of wind. Power went down after the rain had stopped. Lots of trees down.

Riding my 1948 RRA after the storm I managed to get a little stick --really no bigger than a pencil-- involved in the front wheel, making a kind of unappetizing salad out of the front fender. Anyone have a black Bluemels Club Special fender they want to pass on? I don't need the stays....

I think some people thought I was exaggerating when I said to expect some problems.

I was prepared for this, as I'm a emergency generator technician and have been through this too many time now. I've been working very long hours getting customers generators up and running, but we have over 3,000 customers and the generators are failing by the boat load day after day. Well, off to work, and glad everyone is OK..........

I live on the south side of the James in good old Richmond VA area. My house only lost power for an hour or 2 and I lost 1 small tree. However, I was in Florida last week on vacation. We were supposed to fly back into Richmond Saturday night of the storm. We finally got back early Tuesday morning. We were at Disney so waiting it out there was not too bad.

Really? I'd rather ride out a hurricane unsheltered than spend time at Disney! That place is hell on earth.
