Stem shifter bracket + DT shifter (shimano)

Hi guys, I searched the other night and didn't get much info because it seems stem shifters don't get a lot of love. Anyway, are there any stem shifter brackets that accept Shimano DT shifters? A single lever stem shifter bracket would be ideal but not necessary. I also know that Shimano made some indexed 6sp stemmies.

This is what I have. I've got a 3-speed Shimano IGH wheel that I've been shifting with a 7sp DT shifter. I'm transferring that wheelset to a mixte frame that doesn't have DT bosses and I absolutely will not use the twist grip shifter that came with the wheel. Bar-mount shifter would probably work but they aren't as cheap as stem shifters. I could probably go to a used bike shop and get a stem shifter for free! Is there anything I should keep an eye out for in the stemmie world?

This guy used Paul Thumbies and Shimano bar ends to make stem shifters.

Two things about those... First, that has got to be the most expensive way to get a pair of stem shifters. Second, it's hard to tell in his photo but one is higher up on the stem than the other. That's just to much to spend for something kludgey looking.

Thanks guys, I might just bring my DT shifter to the shop and dig in the parts bins for an hour and see what I find. I'm hoping that the Shimano ones use the same type of boss that are on the downtubes, that would be awesome. I'll mount a shifter one one side and a bell on the other!

The Suntour 'Power Ratchet' stem shifters have big long levers and the freewheel side of it ratchets so you get a little more positive feeling than just friction.

I agree! I just bought a set of NOS Suntour Power Ratchet stem shifters for my son's bike for $9.50 on ebay (shipping included). They are the smaller version from the early 1980's.

I thought that the Paul/stem shifters might have been done that way deliberatelty to annoy people. I could not think of any other reason to do it that way....

listen, if I'm going to have a shifter jam me in the nuts during a collision, I'd at least like it to be quality and rust free.

If you wish hard enough, it just might happen.
