Can anyone recommend a modern saddle that looks/rides like the Vettas, Avocets, Kashimaxes, etc. of yesteryear? Thanks in advance.

Don't know about modern saddles but I have an original brown suede vetta off my Miami Vice that's yours for the price of shipping. Pm me.
On the subject of original to Miami Vice and recent topic of front derailleur placement. Unfortunately I'm not experienced with GPX or any Suntour at all. But the stock 105 components are really nice. And the front derailleur is so smooth I have to look down to make sure I shifted or did I just get stronger...yeah that smooth. That's after lining it parallel to the big chain ring. However I did notice the cage has a slight curve to it.

I might take you up on that.
I have a French bike that is frenchy/Richard Petty STP blue. I always got outbid on the bay for brown Avocet Touring saddles.
I finally gave up. I never have really liked the handlebar tape colors I put on it either. It needs to be brown tape/saddle. Let me get a vision of the combo together and I will PM you. Thanks.

Here's a Centurion Ironman Master with Shimano 600 group. Appears to be a 1989 gray smoke, but I'm not sure. Looks pretty good, although the hoods are missing. Same seller I bought my '89 Ironman Expert from in June, and my Univega from last year.

Tempting, but I don't really need another and don't have the room.

I might visit the seller to take a peek anyway, in part to check out the drivetrain to compare with mine (I've mentioned before it seems like my Expert's drivetrain drags a bit from excessive rear derailleur tension). He also has a nice looking Accordo which might make a comfortable alternative to the Centurion for days when my neck is aching.

It would be interesting to compare weight, if they're the same size. That 89 master is a marbled finish named "hard rock" where as your 89 expert has a smoked finish named "smoke on the water ". Although I prefer the expert color I think the master is worth checking out. The tri color group has all the characteristics that make it good; ease of use, dependable, and maintenance friendly.
In my experience, although the same tubing, the masters seem lighter somehow. Of course could be in my head.
Very cool bike none the less.
The tri color group would definitely be an upgrade to your gpx. On that subject, did you ever get your brake calipers straightened out? On most of mine you have to use a cone wrench as you tighten with an allen wrench. If you just use the allen wrench it's difficult to align. I said most because my tricolor 8 speed (I think 2nd Generation) with the beefier dual pivot brake calipers, you just move it with your hands and it stays. Which is cool and weird to me.

@texaspandj, what gumwall tires are those? I've been considering some 700x25's that might be suitable for running at a bit lower pressure. I like the Schwalbe One V-Guards in 700x23, but some days my neck aches after longer rides, even with 'em at 90-100 psi.

Nice find. Looks almost exactly like my '90 Master TG.

I stripped my MV down first thing to start the cleaning and assessment. I found a cracked left crank arm. Luckily, the seller kicked me back $25 to help with the replacement cost.
Thanks to @Brewsmith, I was able to buy a set of 105 cranks with non biopace rings and it came with nice brake levers, shifters and derailers which I already have other plans for another project. Score. @Flog00 is sending me mint 105 levers qith white hoods. Thanks!. @texaspandj was kind enough to get an original set of Wolbers out to me as the bike came with terrible mismatched rims.
Trying on the White Vetta seat like in the ad.
Im going to touch up some of the paint. its pretty nice but can use a little touch up.
Gonna be real nice

Stay tuned

They're strada lgg 700x25 clinchers by Clement. Max psi 105 -125. I run mine and all my bikes at 100 psi. They're light and cushy but easily marked. Im not sure they still make them. Bitd i routinely used max psi. So that meant 700x20 at 120 psi, my tires were "hard as the times of 29". Now older, and 25s at 100 suit me fine. Still havent gone the compact crankset yet but not hilly here.
Did you get a chance to check out that master?

Thanks, I put those on my list of 700x25 tires to consider for this winter.

Haven't posted in this thread lately, so I figured I'd throw up a pic of my lovely '85 She's on my mind tonight because I'm planning to take her out for a ride tomorrow. I haven't ridden in over a month due to an ankle injury, and I'm super excited to get back out on the road again!

Couldn't decide which one to ride after a 3 week lay off.
So I rode them all. 3 rectangular 3.5 mile loops each. So about 30 miles in all.
My hair on my legs is growing back and my farmers tan is gone. But it felt great to ride again. However I did get slightly sunburned.
Good thing my 89 Ironman wasn't in my place of business or else I might have ridden it too.
Later Irongents.
Sorry about the poor phone pic.

Man I love these bikes!!! My ride yesterday was so nice that I didn't want to stop and get off the bike long enough to get a good pic like I had planned to do. She just begs me to push and keep going! The weather was perfect for it too! My only complaint is that my butt just doesn't get along with the original Turbo saddle. It's not terrible, but it's not good either lol.

It really did feel good to be back on a bike though. My ankle was pretty stiff at first, but loosened up quickly. I would have gone out again today, but it was too rainy. I'm hoping for a clear day tomorrow so I can ride some more. I think it was beneficial to my ankle to get it moving again. I'll try to stop and get a pic this time if so!

Good on you. Change the saddle, save your butt, keep the vibe.
