So the bike you have was it Dave's or Mike's?

There is a 1987 Expert near me for $125. I know nothing about these bikes but I do occasionally check out this thread.
The only thing I don't like is the unicrown fork..........but given the love these bikes seem to garner, perhaps that is an aesthetic I can overlook.

$125 . is a nice price if the thing is in decent shape and it fits . I say buy it and wait for that awesome fork to pop up and swap it out .

@Pemetic2006 I get it about the forks. Personally I think the Ironmans appeal is hindered by the uni forks, mostly because that style was used on department store bikes.
FYI the '85, '86, and '87 master Ironman had the better forks. I've thought about changing forks on my '87 expert and '89 master but, how would I match the color, frame-forks.
But it's good to know that the uni forks on some of the Ironman doesn't affect handling. Also you could heed Markwesti advice.

@fleslider Did you ask who else was sponsored by Centurion? Dave Scott, Mike Pigg, and Michellie Jones. Those were the only ones I know of who were Top Tier Triathletes. Perhaps some more second tier however, I don't remember any.
There were a lot riding Zunow bikes for a short time. The Puntous twins, Rick Wells, Wolfgang Deitreich, Rob Mackle, and more I can't think of right now.

@RobbieTunes... @texaspandj.....and @markwesti
Thanks for the advice. Waiting to hear back from the seller on the size (difficult to tell from the 1 picture they posted). If it's my size I just may take a look and see how it goes.
I'd likely just keep the fork to keep the bike original.
Glad to hear the 87 has one of the better forks.

Post a pic of the Ironman or a the link and we may be able to help determine the size. What size do you ride?
Maybe the original forks aren't "better" but IMO they are more aesthetically pleasing.

I'll post a picture when I can.
I ride a 58. From the picture it looks like a 56, which works even if not ideal.

Not sure if this works......I'm on my phone and having difficulty.
It's on FB Marketplace. I searched "centurion" in Scranton.

I think he meant that the forks on the Master version of the Ironman had the nicer forks. If the one you're looking at is an Expert, then it's got the unicrown fork.

I see. I thought he meant better as in functionality.

That could be a 58, since Centurion measured center to top. Looks original except for saddle.

A couple of 58s are sitting on the DC CL. Price is a little steep. The big ones are showing up everywhere.
A 61 on the Philly CL.

Looks to be in good cosmetic shape too....at least from the picture.
Just waiting to hear from the seller.
If it's 58 center to top that would work fine, I believe.

I saw that one was listed. Looks decent. Too big for me.
What do think about Expert vs Tempo?

I have an 86 Red/White 56cm that I bought/saved from the local CL. I use it as a loaner bike for prospective cyclists/triathletes. It's in riding condition, not showroom condition. We will keep looking for you. If one can't be found, you can have that one for what I paid for it.

Wrong person to ask. I don't have any experience with Tempos or any Schwinns for that matter. (Other than the one I looked at over the weekend) For some unknown reason, I have a negative bias towards Schwinns and Raleighs. Put Bianchi and Peugeot on that list as well. I can't explain it. No reasons whatsoever, but the bias is there. The person to ask would be rccardr. I think he has some experience with both. He might be along to answer your question because of the mention.
