Anyone Know Where to Get this Ishiwata Decal/Sticker?

The conclusive results of thus thread may be of interest to anyone who is restoring or refinishing a frame made from Ishiwata EX 4130 Triple Butted Tubing. See thread entry # 37 below for details.
This is a sticker for Ishiwata Triple butted Cromoly tubing. It is on a Canadian Peugeot — model PS20. This was a nice frame set with with very humble components — a sort of quick and dirty entry into triathlon. It is a small fame for my son, and it REALLY is dying for paint!

Here is the sticker on the fork blades. My guess only — the fork blades are not Ishiwata but ....?? Otherwise, why the Peugeot lion and the stripes? Cromo anyway. All the tubes including forks and stays ring nicely.

this may be one you'll have to have reproduced by one of the (few) decal printers that can do foil re-pops. You might want to give the "new guy" a try if you decide to commission someone: https://bicycledecals.net/index.htm
I have yet to try him, but he's getting good press (and JR at Velocals seems to be temporarily out of action due to a family crisis)

Thanks for the advice. There is no hurry cuz it be added on at any time. But I am looking ahead because, of course, without the sticker the value of the bike plummets to gas pipe status. And Shoh is not gonna be his current height in a year or two.

I have the same sticker on on of my bikes a Nashbar Alpha 5000 (aka Shogun) that I would like to replace once I repaint it.

My fork is unmarked but Ishiwata stamped the name on the steerer

Some ideas:
(1)
Maybe we could split the cost of the artwork if we find someone to make a foil sticker. What I mean is ... the maker or graphics person may charge something up front for doing the artwork ... on top of the normal sort of cost of the decal. The maker may count it as a either a custom order. On the other hand, he/she may produce it, sell it at a usual sort of price and add the artwork to their catalog.

I may put up another thread and see if there are a pile of other BFers who have the same frame tubing and want a decal as either a spare or for a planned repaint as is our case. We can place order with a sticker maker and have it made. In Sendai I think that there is such a place. The day I found the shop, it was closed. I have meant to enquire. That would mean that we collectively own the artwork, so we could donate it to C & V bike forums.

I get a pile of these stickers made and start getting into the foil decal distribution business. Just how many thousands are clamering and drooling for an Ishiwata EX-T sticker? It might be akin to owning a warehouse full of Jugo door handles without the scrap value.

There is a lot of rash and chain scarring but the main reason is the color red. I have never been drawn to red anything and besides 2 bikes and a T-shirt I recieved for Father's Day they are the only red items I own.
I would be intererested in buying the foil sticker, or several, but I am unsure what artwork cost would cost. As long as it wasn't prohibitive I would be interested.
I also think that donating the artwork to BF would be a great idea! Which spurs another idea of possibly others doing the same and having BF being a repository of the artwork and creating a catalog of vintage decals set-up similar to the Cafe-Press deal where the buyer would place the order on-line.

Hmm, the market is expanding
My Canadian Peugeot doesn't need a repaint, but the sticker is a bit mangled (I didn't even realize it was Ishiwata tubing until today!)

Hi Chris — curious. What Canadian Peugeot do you have? And BTW I looked at my fork. "Made in Taiwan" and says SPRIN .... can't read the rest. Dated 1987.

OK guys, Allen [unorthy] is patiently in the wings waiting to produce the Ishiwata artwork. I have sent him the measurements of my sticker. I bent card on the frame and used a set of calipers. This is how they measured up: up
* HEIGHT, from the top middle down to the bottom apex = 27.0 mm
* WIDTH = 30.3 mm
* A line from the apex of one corner (upper) to the apex of another (bottom) = 37.0 mm
* Height of the "EX" type set = 7 mm.

Here is some more detail. You can see that I am not a draftsman, but I hope that it is descriptive enough.

* HEIGHT - From the very top of the sticker running from the top to the very bottom apex ... including the metallic borders = 27 mm.
* WIDTH - The complete width ... including the metallic borders = 30 mm
* DIAGONAL - from the radius of one corner to the next = 37 mm
* HEIGHT of TOP METALLIC BORDER = 3 mm
* WIDTH of SIDE METALLIC BORDERS = 1.2 mm
* HEIGHT of BOTTOM METALLIC BORDER = 5 mm
HEIGHT of "EX" logo = 7 mm
MAX WIDTH from 'E' to 'X' = 24 mm
Now let us be aware that among us there are three variations. I am willing to bet that the scale and sizes are the same or very close. But the colors vary:
Lorne: Black "diamond" with silver foil EX outlined in red and silver tube description. Silver foil borders with red lettering.
Chris: Black "diamond" with silver foil EX outlined in white (?) and silver tube description. Silver foil borders with white (?) lettering.
fas Black "diamond" with gold foil EX outlined in red and gold tube description. gold foil borders with red lettering.
If Alan only produces one version, I for one am not too fussy about which one I use. That being said, I find Chris' version a little under-whelming, so I might elect for my one silver one or fas' gold version.
No matter what version we use, the application of a new sticker will look better, and in the case of a future repaint (as in my case) it will keep the frame-set from falling into worthless obscurity.
I must say that this frame rings like a bell .. as clear as crystal. With the paint still on, there appear to be no voids in the tidy brazing. The tubes are nicely set into the BB shell, head and seat lugs. There is too much mild rust coming through the paint to save the original finish. I have bought a heat gun, and I'm taking it down to the bone. The Canadian production graphics will have to be written off. Shoh (my son) has chosen white as the replacement color for what will be his bike. I plan on getting an orange version of the "PEUGEOT" DT logo. If I can find some black outlined lions, I'll add them in too.

AFAIK, this frame was built in Canada in 1987.

My Alpin shares some details with your PS20 including the construction of the stay bridges, the bottom-mounted brake cable guides, and the "Serie Collection" decal.
Nice work with the draft of the decal! I have no preference as far as the color goes and I agree that mine is pretty bland in comparison with the others...

when I (eventually) get this drawn up, it will be "mechanical art" for reproduction: swapping in color variations will be easy for the decal printer...even fairly easy for somebody just outputting on a home laser-or-ink-jet printer. It could also be scaled up, down, any which way...but there lies trouble if you don't know what you're doing.

Yeah scaling. It can be tricky. I've bummed on one or two things, but my Simplon head badge came out right on the mark, AFAIK. I mean, it sits in perfect scale on the head tube.
I used a very light German shareware app. called GraphicConverter. I paid for a licensed version. It may not be the pro app. you would use, but for a graphics bone head like me, it does some essentials. I may try the 'Woodrup' head badge using this since app. I have found something I can use for the artwork that I can print on white sticky vinyl that claims to be UV resistant. No metallic foil is needed.
My wife has a Cannon printer with 6 color separation. I use it rarely. She used to have a Canon with 7 color separation, but when it broke, Canon here in Japan offered to replace it for 100 clams with a newer model that used 6, but apparently is an improvement on the 7 separation due to something or other. The bent machine was off warranty, so we thought it was a pretty decent offer. The newer machine is more compact.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Those Canadian made Peugeots are extremely nice... the build quality is excellent and Ishiwata EX is some fine tubing.
My '88 Kuwahara Shasta is an EX frame and when I got it was rather pleased with how light this ATb was compared to my quad butted 022 Cascade... both are seriously stiff bikes.
I might need a repro sticker as well as I am thinking of refinishing the Shasta.

Thanks for the comp. Your comments about your Alpin interest me. I've not been able to find out much about Canadian Peugeots. Other enquiries have appeared in my searches. Someone somewhere must have the full story — old catalogues or something. This history is not that ancient — a mere 25 -30 years.
