The modernish Master and Super Corsa are more fashion items.

RIH-Sport in Amsterdam uses a more traditional way of building than Duell, but they build it to your spec and their own vision on what works for you (unlike the off the shelf Master or SC).

It may not look like a classic bike to C&V people, but I am constantly asked "how old" it is;
people seem to think it's ancient!

Surly too expensive for you; how about Pake? Creme? BikesDirect?

I have one in orange, great comfortable bike that I can ride all day without a problem, made me enjoy 650 wheels too. I would put Rivendell in the list of modern classics, but there are a bunch of really cool classically styled bikes being produced now it is just an exciting time to be shopping if you are into them.

Here's my Pelizzoli Corsa GP.
Handmade by Giovanni Pelizzoli of Ciocc fame in italy.

-Columbus SL frame
-ITM competizione handlebar and stem
-shimano 600 tricolor groupset (except for the FD, that's an old campy, since mine didn't fit).
-Mavic Ksyrium wheels.


The bike is not done yet, i've just put parts from my old bike on this one when i got it, so i can ride it, but i want to build it nicer and more italian. Currently researching my options, going for something between classic look and modern functionality.

I'm fairly new to this nice forum, where could i post a thread and get some opinions on that?

Hey neveneven, that's a very nice bike, and welcome btw! maybe you could look up the old frames with ergo/sti thread, it shows the looks of classic steel with modern integrated brake/shifters (commonly called brifters here). In my opinion campagnolo of the previous generation (10 speed) in alloy represents the best compromise between cost, function and looks.

I would like to get some weight down too, you think the new groupset will make any difference weight?
it's a little over 10kg now, i'd like to get it as close to 9 as possible

I will give a hats off to Cinelli and Colango great Italian steel. But, I also feal that the Brits's had a classic steel frame in the Raleigh Pro.
I love my 1973. This was the bike of my dreams as a teen back in the day. But, I will say I'm also looking to get a Pegoretti too.

Start saving your pennies for an Athena 11 speed gruppo.

Alternate idea is to start shopping for a used 10 speed Chorus gruppo.

They are out there from time to time.

...and usually value priced.

I think the various incarnations of Colnago C40 have to be future classics. such an iconic, winning bike. Some unique paint schemes over the years too!

Not so classic, however for Modern Steel, Independent Fabrication is very nice.

Niner SIR 9 - all the modern cool stuff (disk brakes, 29" wheels, tapered steering column, 142x12 rear axle spacing, BioCentric bottom bracket, and made out of 853 dzb and Reynolds 631 tubing). I think this will be my next mountain bike.

I'm looking at a Niner as well, the Air 9 RDO in black.

Trying to decide on the 4 star or 5 star model.
