I don't know why, but for some reason I think this would look really cool with a SRAM Rival group, the alloy version. I think if you sold all of the Campy bits you could easily finance a Rival build. Maybe even a racier looking modern wheelset too?

Love the face-melting paint job. I personally wouldn't change anything, but if you want that to perform at its highest, the 8-speed Tri-Color with STI shifters would be a good setup.

That Campy Veloce groupo would be a great setup for it! I like black wheels and components but I'm afraid it would start looking like an Ed Hardy t-shirt if I put too much black on it

I saw that one on Chicago CL, looks like a really clean bike. I would imagine that one also came from TSDI and it might be TSX tubing, but it's also very possible that it's Chromor which was a little cheaper. That paint scheme is the one I tend to see more often. So that one is just as much the real deal as mine (or lack of real dealness), neither were ridden by Greg but both were probably sold through the same importer.

The thing I can't seem to find is a catalog showing what parts they would have some with if you bought a complete bike. The PO told me he bought a bare frame and had his LBS in Carbondale build this one. Maybe you couldn't get a complete bike, I don't think I've seen two exactly the same. But then again, parts do get swapped out a lot in 20 years

Picked up a possible donor bike today for a song and a dance. It's mostly 105 with some budgety wheels so I don't know if I'll use it or not. Even if I don't use it for parts the flipper profits will help with buying a nicer groupset.

I don't see the point in upgrading, I think the components are the coolest thing here. I don't go in for wild peacock paint jobs too much but the C-record stuff is awesome. I used to think those brakes were ugly but they've grown on me and now I think they're some of the most distinctive and beautiful bike components ever.

Hell yeah, I am going to ask my bike shop if they have the ability to cold set my bike to allow this upgrade! My 77 schwinn is just not geared right for the copious mountain passes that I always seem to be going up... I have been procrastinating an upgrade and now that I am down with an injury I think this just might be the time!

Since I'm online I figured I'd post a quick update. The bike is completely torn down and all of the components are cleaned and bagged. I'm still not 100% sure how it'll look upon reassembly so the frame is hanging on the wall for safekeeping until that decision is made. The Giant definitely won't be a donor, I sold it and made some decent nickels on it.

There was a crazy amount of grit and grime on this thing. Getting the stem out was a chore and thank god for Sheldon Brown's page or I wouldn't have got the BB cup out in one piece.

Wow, that's an awesome score. If you aren't happy with the delta's ability to stop you, then I do know that they've been fetching fairly high prices on ebay. Selling them could help to finance upgrading the rest of the bike -- it's certainly a keeper!

If he responds to your emails buy that thing! There are a lot of different variations of these bikes but even a junker would be nice for $60.

Not much of an update...but a little update:

I met up with the original owner and bought some more stuff since he's in the state again for Thanksgiving.

Got a nice workstand, probably a little overkill for what I do but if it's worth doing it's worth overdoing.


Similarly, do I need a carbon disc...no but why not. Is it safe to ride 20 yr old carbon? There's no physical damage. It's actually really nice.


Got the Open 4 CD/Record's mate, now I have a matching pair.



Also got another set of Record wheels with Mavic tubulars, they need cleaned up as well


The current state of the bike. Frame is all cleaned up and hanging on the wall. The parts are pretty much all cleaned and ready to go. Just need to buy some cables, bartape, and figure out what to do about a seat. Mini poll: 1. reuse the old ripped but comfy Concor 2. buy a cheapo Velo San Marco knock off 3. spring for a white Regal.

It's done! Still have a few little things to clean up. Need to get the little ferrule thingy for the rear cable that I started a thread about. Once I get that I'm going to replace the inner shifter cables and I'll solder the ends so they're all nice and pretty.

A little gaudy for my taste, but I'd ride it... Nice job!
