This dead horse has been revived - OP is alive!
All,
Thank you so much for the replies. I know I'm showing up to this party late, but after locking myself out of my account (smart phone problems), I just walked away from the conversation to get on my bikes to train.
To clear the dirty air:
1) This is a tongue-in-cheek kind of rivalry. We all know it's a good cause, but having a reason to train to be better is our absolute goal besides raising money/awareness for MS patients. He's been training longer, he has the more expensive bike, but I have 8 years of youth on him, and my legs are like tree trunks.
2) Our racing will be done safely, in between rest stops, and the biggest verbal grunt among the water-cooler club is if I can even keep up with the guy(s) (There's another guy talking mess who is way faster than everyone, but he's enjoying being able to add fuel to our fire).
3) I love the idea of hookers and blow, but I'm on a budget, so I'll keep it to blind dates and biofreeze.
4) This all comes down to training and based on the replies, I've got a decent idea of what to do.
My bike is still currently being built by moi and as there's a bit of stuff I need to ask, I'm starting a new thread to get the ball rolling. Thanks for everything all... I didn't die.
Long live personal rivalries amongst coworkers!

As Eddy Merckx said... "ride lots".
The difference is going to stem from who has the better engine when it comes time to put the rubber on the road.
That, and if you should get access to his carbon wonder bike before the "race", I would suggest you top up his tyres with water.
