I have an old reynolds, I'm assuming this origional sticker says 531, 700C wheels, shimano on rear dropout, 6 speed, nice gali components, any clues to what it is,

nope, but it looks pretty nice! I Like the looong spearpoint seat lug, the early-ish under-bottom-bracket cabling, but bolted calipers says it's a "transition period", like late '70s or very early '80s. Interesting blend of features, even though they are Shimano (short) DOs I bet it's a European frame. They earliest (EU) adopters of Shimano DOs were Austrian and Dutch, and both liked to use 531 tubing. Doesn't look like a A-D/Steyr/Puch so... I think it might be Dutch.

Seat lug and seat stay end caps looks A LOT like my unidentified frame? Has the loooong points but heart cutouts in the lugs. Head lugs are way more elaborate on mine.,,,,BD

your seat lug also has a deeper seat tube socket (and with a slot). Is there a thread for yours, bikedued?
And a ? for the OP: what BB threading? Def is a 27.2 seat post? (so we can trust the 531 decal as legit?)

Doesn't have to be 27.2 mm seatpost to be legit Reynolds 531. The french ordered Reynolds in metric diameters, and framebuilders usually bore the seat tube themselves.

Yep there's a thread for mine, never got a definite. It was a year or two ago now, and still have the bike. Shimano drops in back, Campy in front, and English BB. Original color was yellow.

in this seat lug there are 2 "sockets" that main tubes fit into: one for the top tube and one for the seat tube. The seat tube socket on your lug has a long point and that point has a cut-out, shaped not like a heart but a simple slot, AFAI can tell.

true, but I don't think this has metric 531 tubing (because it's not French nor Spanish), and 99% of Imperial 531 seat tubes were reamed to 27.2...there will always be exceptions but I don't think this is one.

European? wow, I thought it may have been a local (australian) custom frame. I'll check the seat post and BB, let you know.

Well, you're in AUS...that could change everything. I was going to add that there was at least one early (and by that I mean 1976-ish) adopter of Shimano DOs in England, but I can't recall the name. Given the proximity to Japan, this may be a component that an AUS framebuilder had early access to as well.
Give us the seat post and BB specs.

This bike looks a lot like an early 80's Soma I used to have. They used the long pointy lugs and shimano or suntour dropouts.

Why do you say Monark?

Its seat post is 27.2.
BB is a Gipiemme 1.37" x 24, RHS is LH thread, is this LH thread always the case with Gipiemme?

Why do I say monark, no reason, I'm a bike lover!! but some of these details are still new to me.
Just dreaming about what decals to put on it, I would prefer not to powder coat as i like the old look,
but I would decide when I aquired stickers.

The slot is V shaped, and they left the point in the middle of the wide end, so I'd call it a heart? Mine is also Shimano rear dropouts, and Campy front. The fork may have been changed though..,,,,BD

Oh I get it. The odd paint and lighting makes it look like a slot. It's actually wider and more pronounced than the top cutout. I am going to start another thread on mine tonight. I wish it had never been painted all artsy, lol. It might have made the ID way easier.,,,,BD

I know my Monarks, and this doesn't look like one of them. The paint looks muuuch to nice to powdercoat IMHO.

no, it's an Italian BB unit but with British threading, so the BB shell is British thread. Frame could be from many locales, including UK, Japan or OZ...I'm going to bet it's made in OZ and it is 531 tubing, but it's all a guess. No idea who the builder might be (doesn't look like any of the well-known OZ makers), but very likely a well-built and quality frame.

I'll definately keep origionl paint, what decals to put on it?
