Bikes: Waterford 953 RS-22, several Paramounts

Another quick visual way to tell an imported Series Paramount from a Waterford Paramount is by the fork used. Series bikes had unicrown forks while the Waterfords had semi-sloping fork crowns.

There is reason to believe it was made in Japan? Relevant thread.

Should I doubt the "Made in Japan" sticker that was on the seat tube near the BB shell? See Anton's post #29 in the referenced thread.

Not that I doubt you, I just haven't seen a 1988 with that sticker. Anton's photos don't show one.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones

Thanks for clarifying the Taiwan vs. Japan on series 2 and 3.

RX100 works fine, but that's not the issue...the issue is whether a bike is worth buying based on market pricing, and, IMO, RX100 is not valuable enough on the market to justify $350. The Paramount bikes do go higher than other similarly equipped bikes based on that sticker, so if it were my money...I'd buy a similarly equipped, less expensive bike.

Hmm. I don't know that I have a pic before I had it powder coated. I certainly don't have one handy. It wouldn't be impossible for me to be mis-remembering, I suppose. Anton is a pretty scrupulous researcher, though, so I would be inclined to believe what he found. My Voyageur has a Tange fork.

It's worth noting, too, that those small, rectangular "Made In Japan" stickers often fell off or were removed by owners.

One data point, I picked up one off ebay for $200 last year, that appeared to be NOS. It has since moved to another home. I have a Series 5 as well, and would put a higher value on the Panasonic built Schwinns than the Taiwan or China models. Of course, I have FOUR Panasonic built Schwinns right now....

As a rough rule of thumb, around here, a nice vintage bike with indexed shifting will bring $275 to $300, higher than that for a high end group or something really special.

I paid about that for my 91 (see sig) but mine had been updated with new wheels/tires, Ultegra crankset and STI so for me it was a nice frame with stuff I wanted on it anyway. Please note I consider STI a MAJOR upgrade over DT Shifters. I have since upgraded it further with a Dura Ace 7700 crankset/rear d/BB (best BB ever.) They are nice bikes, but unless you are attached to the "pedigree" you can certianly find a better value elsewhere.

I have a Series 3 with the serial number on the headtube. Panasonic?

That would be unexpected. Take a photo of the head lug and post it.

If that is the same Voyageur I traded to Anton, I'm pretty certain it had a "Made in Japan" label. I may still have a photo of it somewhere - I'll look to see for certain.
