Raleigh Competition GS again!!

I have two 79 Raleigh Competition GSs. I just saw this on Ebay, and the seller has a $900 starting bid, with a $1200 BIN..!!!!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Raleigh-Comp...item27c07552aa

My #2 Raleigh has that one beat good. No dings, finish is about 9 out of 10,is full Campy N. Record, even has the reciept for when it was purchase. It is spotless, has the pump that came with it. the only thing that has been changed is the bartape, to Velo Orange Elkskin, the hoods, and the tires. Everything is is all orginal even down to the concave wheels.

Are these bike worth that much?

Also, would my chances be good at asking $850 starting bid on mine????

I am going to put the pump that came with it back on. Get the ORIGINAL RECIEPT,

and see what happens..

Bikes: '77 Centurion "Pro Tour"; '67 Carlton "The Flyer"; 1984 Ross MTB (stored at parents' house)

Those are really, really beautiful bikes, but I think that even half that much is rather optimistic.

And only one picture, and a lousy one at that? For shame. I wish him luck. Yours are nice.

Of course, then I'd have to put mine up at $898 and $1198.

My problem with putting your GS up for ebay is what to do if it sold. How easy is it to replace that beautiful bicycle? I'd find myself like Michael Angelo's friend with the Carlton that sold. A great price but how much and when could I replace a bike like yours?

My #1 has seen its time. Been stolen, recovered, touched up, not all original parts, ding in TT, but a lot of sentimental value. But, the #2, along with the receipt, and all original, and IMO, is worth about $500 to $600 to somebody LOOKING FOR THAT MODEL..

Cool idea, and I can't lose anything doing that.. And might get a hook on line. If that is done, will take that money and increase my hunt for another Centurion Master/Expert/Turbo in my size..

I wouldn't say rare, but kind of rare would be fair. Also, I never did like the original concave wheels, and was looking to replace them. That would lower the value too. BTW, I just remembered, I still have the old hoods that came with it. The seat was purchased the same time as the bike too. I think it came with a black Brooks , and the buyer wanted a honey Brooks, so he purchased it. That is on the reciept too. Let me go find all this stuff.

I would consider buying it but I'm holding out for Raleigh with chrome lugs at this price.

I'm thinking the eBay'er ain't so crazy. The GS's are nice, maybe so nice that if you wanted one bad enough and someone dropped some Christmas Cash on you, you'd pull the $1,200 trigger. And for the seller....well $1,200 could get you along way to your grail bike.

I think the Comp GS's have been undervalued for a long time, while not worth the $1200 to buy one, I certianly wouldn't part with mine for much less!

No comment on that, but Comps. used to sell very, very consistently for about $300 on eBay (complete bikes in very good condition, in a 'good' size). Recently, they have tended to inflate up to more like $400 or so, I would say. As Professionals move up, they raise the tide, as it were. Pros used to be $500-600 in equivalent condition, but now maybe they are $600-900. Of course, anything is possible on eBarf, and outliers can sell for three times the going rate.

P.T. Barnum would smile!
