Here's a Retrogrouch article on Clapton and his interest in bikes. https://bikeretrogrouch.blogspot.com...d-guitars.html

https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...aeli-gears.jpgBicycles? Really? Yep. Granted, lots of things get me thinking about bicycles, but it's probably already well known among us old bicycle enthusiasts (or maybe not) that Eric Clapton has been a huge fan of bicycles -- especially classic Cinellis -- going back to his youth. So was the band's drummer, Ginger Baker, for that matter. Their mutual love for racing bicycles, and a roadie's malapropism, led to the title of that iconic 1967 album. The story goes that Baker and Clapton were talking about bikes one time in the back of a car, and according to Baker, "Mick Turner was one of the roadies who'd been with me a long time, and he was driving along and Eric was talking about getting a racing bicycle." Apparently, Turner commented about the bike having "disraeli gears," as opposed to derailleur gears. (The actual Disraeli was a British Prime Minister during the Victorian era). "We all just fell over," said Baker. "We said that's got to be the album title." (disraeligears.co.uk) I did not know this and I've been a long time Clapton fan, THANKS. |

The 1940 film, The Lady in Question, opens with Fat Boy delighted the bicycle and music store owner allowed him to trade the tandem he recently bought for a one-seater after his girl broke it off with him.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...349faddf86.jpg Sumner Getchell was not unfamiliar with being so openly typecast. His other characters in film include, Slug, Fat Soldier, Tank, Fat Boy (again), Blimpy, Bakery Boy, Blimp, Fat Boy Tourist, Tubby, and simply, Fat. |

Publicity from the same movie:
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4ff855bd1b.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3a5d678805.jpg Brian Aherne billed first, then Hayworth. Glenn Ford is in there as well. I'd give it a 6.0, but only because Aherne owns a bike shop. |
(above) I thought that was Glenn Ford. I've actually not seen any of Hayworth's films, though read the page about her on wiki; Evidently she was a stunning dancer as well, the favorite partner of Fred Astaire.
