My mom used to carry my sister in a similar fashion, except it was just a Wald wire basket without the leg holes. She laid a blanket in first to pad the edges and my sister hung her legs over the side. I still vividly recall the time my mom was walking the bike to cross a street and dumped my sister onto the the sidewalk when the front wheel hit the curb. Luckily she only had some minor scratches. My mom didn't carry her in the basket anymore after that.

I was a rock band roadie in the Bay Area during the '60s and '70s. I worked on a lot of Dead shows. I had a roommate named Ned Lagin who recorded an album with Phil, which might have sold 12 copies ("Seastones").

When Bob took up mountain biking in the '90s, we rode together on Mount Tamalpais. He was very strong on the climbs, but I could drop him on descents. He was cautious because he had already had a big crash and a shoulder injury. Bob had a little tape recorder attached to his handlebars, so if he had a song idea while riding, he could record it on the spot.

Some Deadhead purists have remarked that the colors are reversed on Bob's "Steal Your Face" logo. My response is that Bob can wear any logo he wants.

My wife only met Bob one time, when Joe and Connie Breeze had us over to dinner along with Bob. Every time Bob's name is mentioned, she says, "He kissed my hand!" (Bob wanted to talk about bikes. Music was not part of the conversation.)

Yeah that's exactly what I thought. Well hidden with the mid-drive, but that size bottom bracket and down tube, yeah. I don't think throttled, but pedal assist. But he looks like he's working out. Geez, check out the definition on his left arm; They like that in bodybuilding, but just that vein or artery, I wonder if that's a scar from surgery or an injury? Looks too smooth to be varicose veins.

He exercises not only to remain in healthy shape, but to keep his medical certificate allowing him to fly his own planes. He's private pilot only, class 3, so at his age he needs a certificate exam every 2 years.
