I'm from Silverton, between Exeter and Tiverton, and for a period of 3 years used to spend the week in Torquay, where my mother taught at a school, and return to Silverton at weekends. This was between 1966 and 1969, and the last bus to Torquay on a Sunday night used to go via Teignmouth and I remember passing Shaldon. It must be nice to go back at Xmas. Have a great holiday!

In 1987 I sometimes used to drive from Maidstone in Kent to Shaldon to do business with a company called Rydon Signs (probably no longer in business?) - a family form that made the most amazing neon displays. Nice people - I think the owner was Ron Clatworthy and his two sons were also in the business. Maybe you know the family? The drive through such beautiful countryside always made up for the distance involved. Have a good Christmas Oldmuthariley!

Happy xmas to you too Oldpeddaller
i don't know the Clatworthys but i'm sure my Dad will - i'll check out to see if they're still in business.
Last time i was down i rode up to Haytor from shaldon - it was a great ride!
Here's a pic of mine (me on a 1979 Gazelle Champion Mondial in New Zealand eating a banana!)
