I too run clipless with a C & V bike. My first clipless pedals ever. Already did the low-speed cow-tipping imitation. Twice. I'm better now.

I kept the originals, of course. They're very pretty, light as one could desire, and besides, Shimano M520s are not allowed at Gaiole.

I tend to lean towards retro so I use clipless with everything. My 92 Bianchi Alfana has Look Keo Easy pedals and I use the Classics on my newer bike. I have some double sided Wellgo spd pedals on my 91 Bianchi Ibex mountain bike.

Already did the low-speed cow-tipping imitation. Twice. I'm better now.
Oh yeah! Me too. I think this is a rite of passage?

It is when your vintage bike is from 1992.

Funny thing is........I thought I have totally abandoned clips and straps after my first pair of Look clipless pedals in 84........but then, why do I find myself still looking for NOS Ofmega Aero platform clipped Sintesi pedals at eBay these days???
Anyway, why do we keep debating this point over and over.........Paper or plastic?? Choose one and go home!

Just pedals, half clips, and full clips. No clipless. Mostly half clips. I am surprised I don't see more half clips on the road. Easy with any footwear and much more safe and powerful than nothing.

Those are a lot easier. I got my first pair of clipless in 1990 and I hated them. I put my toe clips back on and kept them on till I sold that bike a few years later. When I got back into cycling a few years ago I gave the clipless another try. Much better but still hate walking in the spd-sl type shoes.

Clipless is retro?
I think my terminology comes from my old hot rod days when we would refer to older cars with newer engines and the like as "retro" and the vintage cars as "original."

Look Keo style. I have big feet and love the solid engagement feel. Platform for my bar bike however, but will put on a set of clipless when I'm doing a much longer ride.

Clipless on the Madone; clips and straps on the Centurion - at least until the shoes wear out

Right now I don't use either just rattrap style pedals, I have 11 1/2 6E feet and so far I haven't seen clipless shoes in a wide enough size to fit me plus I don't want to spend that kind of money on a pair of shoes and pedal system I may not like. As for clips and straps I used to ride them in my younger days and had no problems with them but as I got away from bicycles for years & upon my return none of my clips fit my flippers. I am now wanting to pick up a set of MKS Sylvan Stream Pedals with the MKS Sneaker Super Deep Clips in XL and give them a try.

Neither, here. They're funny-looking, but I've just gotta have the BMX/Downhill-type pinned platforms. With waffle-soled shoes you stick to them almost like you were clipped in, but you can put your foot down in any orientation you want. I need to move my feet around a lot for comfort (wore orthopedic shoes as a child, if that tells anything) and these give me that ability.

The Wellgo magnesium-bodied ones, like the MG-A52 and MG-1, are fairly affordable and not much heavier than pedals+clips+straps.

SPD types all around. I've got "drop-foot" and can't feel the right side. I just undo the clip holding tension until they just barely keep my feet in. Safe and keeps the feet on the pedals, most of the time.

MKS rubber block pedals with Molded in Reflectors ..

and I have a couple vintage pedal wrenches and a bin with various pedals.

my touring rig used the steel Campag record pedals.
some of the double Fisher stainless steel toeclips
parts off old Deore MTB pedals , sent as a front CSPC reflector mount.

it works to make some upside down pedal grip, for a stroke or 2
before the clip, gets flipped.

Modified my bike shoes, to create comfy insoles and a walkable slot cleat.
took a Shoe shop guy who I worked With.
a step by step cooperative thing.
rather than a job you just left off there..
stiff sole made them like penny loafers to walk in, but on the bike
the feets was happy. for hours of riding..

I found a pretty good alternative to my favorite Suntour Superbe Pro track pedal, for clip bikes. Wellgo track pedals RO25, can be found down to $18/pair new (or $10/pair from the used pedal bin), weigh 220 gram/pair on my scale (spec is 238 gram), can be had brand new down to $25/pair with clips and straps.

I use Clips on some clipless on some and baskets on some and it just depends on why I am riding
I only use SPD clipless on my road bikes, Baskets and SPD on my two mountain bikes and I use the strap on two of my Classics a modern upgrade but I have big feet and getting cool XL Christophe's are not easy so the velcro strap works great and is very comfortable.

Speedplay on all but one road bike. I use standard steel pedals on my '74 Falcon. That's the bike I use when my wife wants to take a quick 2 or 3 mile ride around town.

Some variation of Shimano SPD on all...except MKS Sylvans on the '63 Huffeigh and beartraps on the Rockhopper and Iron Horse, park cruiser and winter bike respectively.

Long and/or hard rides without being clipped in is a real drag...in fact, riding to the park, unclipped, is weird now.

Clips and straps for now. I have clipless on my modern bike but might try them on my c&v bikes at some point.

For serious riding, clipless, such as the older Look pedals. For photo op, clip pedals.

Heh, but in all seriousness you would get used to clipping in and out constantly in city streets if you lived in one. I like running spd-sl road pedals on all my rides, but eventually caved and put eggbeaters on the commuting bike just so that walking into a shop wasn't such a pain in the keester.

On topic, I guess I'm in the c&v group that doesn't mind using modern components if it's functionally superior to the originals.
