How do I clean tires?

I have a Centurion Iron Man 'Miami Vice' bike. It has the yellow and pink paint scheme. It has yellow bar tape, yellow saddle and black tires. I want to swap out the black tires for a pair of older yellow Michelin Pro Race tires I have so I can finish out the yellow theme. They are pretty dirty right now. Does anyone have a sure fire way to clean up these tires so they look like new again? Thanks.

Use simple green, water, and a plastic bristle brush.

I prefer Dawn dish soap, which is the closest thing to a universal solvent you're going to find in the grocery store. Cleans everything up to and including sin out of the soul, and is alloy-friendly to boot.

Black magic Bleche-Wite. It used to be called Wesley's. It's not just for whitewalls. Keep it off of aluminum, but you may notice improved braking if you get some on braking surfaces and wipe it off quickly.

Yellow tires look nasty after a few rides. Not worth the effort and black looks better anyway, IMHO.

This stuff works amazingly well with next to no effort...I use it on old mtb tires and they end up looking new...might want to be carefull with a roadie tire for the first few miles as it leaves the tires a bit slick. You can get it at Lowes.

Welcome to the forum. All the cool kids ride Ironmen. I just use Dawn dish soap to brighten up the tires. I use wet the bar tape well, then soap it up with a toothbrush and Dawn to renew that, too, but be sure to not let it sit wet.

Thanks to all for the cleaning tips. Since I had a some Dawn at the house I used it to clean the tires. They turned out quite well. I am starting to wonder whether I have too much yellow on the bike now that I added the yellow tires.

This works well, but it's better to keep the oil off the sea birds in the first place.
