Bikes: I used to have many. And I Will again.

Very nice! Lot's of respect for those Kleins, a lot of neat build details, and performance. I like those color coordinated calipers! Those appear to be OEMed Tektros.
I like that photo in the fog too.
But you gots-ta lose dat kickstand.

in my opinion, the velocity of technology in cycling has made almost anything with a quill stem and square taper cranks c&v material. besides, who is going to complain about pictures of a quantum. i vote loose the kickstand as well.

Real Nice. The colored keyed brakes are a great touch. Is that the paint that changes color?

Does anyone know how these compare to Cannondale bikes of the same time frame?

i dont know how to describe the paint - it fades in between a purple and a teal-ish color throughout the frame - i didnt do the build - fella i bought from built up the frame after an ebay purchase - it rides nice - i have one other alum bike - my raleigh - and they feel much different than my steel rides - this one in particular is super light - it reminds of my 2010 giant defy in terms of weight and road feel - bike is quite responsive and has a nice stiff feel to it - i dig it big time - thanks for the nice comments folks

That was a great score. Kleins have a cult following. Do not clamp onto the tubing with your bike stand!

+1 On weight, my 1997 Klein was the lightest bike that has passed through my hands. Mine had a carbon fork (not OEM). Paint on Kleins is incredible.

kickstands make you guys cringe i know - there are soft plastic pieces on the kickstand on the two points where they attach to protect the frame - i just see them as so functional

i have been looking for one of these for awhile and figured i woulda ended up w a mtb klein - but this was just my size (61cm) and the price was right ($200 + a letour frame, an old 700 wheelset, and some mtb parts) - i think i made out more than he did - but i think he was happy to see it go to someone who was gonna get some use with it - he certainly knew his bikes and was a nice fella - i dont think he saw as much value in this though as he was taking his road rides the full carbon route

Nice. Are those 600 8-speed brifters?

Bikes: Are several.

This bike was up on ebay recently - I recall asking the seller a question a few days ago and receiving no reply. Now I know why!

Nice score. Maybe you can tell me: is that 61cm a c-t-c or c-t-t measurement?

Though I know very little about Klein, this one seems like a really good value...I know one seller has a Quantum frame on the 'bay for $325 with no more than a headset to sweeten the pot.

Beautiful - always liked that color scheme. I fell in "love" with the Kleins in the mid-80's when a fellow dorm mate had an early red one. Just never go around the getting the road bike version. My 90's era mtb climbs like a goat. Have fun putting lots o' miles on that one.

61 is center BB to top of seat tube

seller worked with me on trying to figure a deal that worked for him too - some folks just like trading stuff and thats how i am - i think sometimes i make out good and sometimes i get the short end - but i like to move my collection around quite a bit - i enjoy the novelty of new bikes

Klein's name for the paint job was "Carribean Linear Fade" - it was the standard offering for that year and model. It wasn't sold as a bare frame and it came with 600/Ultegra group. Obviously been re-built since then with the Bontrager seatpost and blue brakes among other things. Are those Shimano road SPDs? And what's up with that seatpost collar binder bolt? Looks like it belongs inside the brake lever or something.

Edit: It looks like the whole cable housing runs through the top tube - yes? The stock way of doing this was with little insert cable stops which are probably very hard to find now... but if the uncut housing thing works, I've gotta say BRILLIANT!

Wow, I think you did very well on this deal! She's a beauty. The paint is very sharp looking and the yellow accents really are a standout. The bike still looks very modern and would look right at home next to a new carbon fiber bike

I ride an aluminum Miyata, and I can't figure out where all the anti-aluminum bias comes from. Like your Klein, mine is very light, which makes me "feel" quicker, she handles well, and rides very nicely, without the harshness alot of guys say aluminum bikes can give you.

Enjoy her!

+ 1 on the comments that Klein has amazing paint.

I've got the orange/red fade on my Attitude Comp and love it.

Nice score!

he sold to trek, trek watered them down, every year they got closer and closer to their comparable trek, and the brand became completely redundant. if kleins were till around it would be nothing more than a project 1 madone with different decals.

the same can be said about gary fisher and to a lesser degree, lemond (yes, there were other issues at play heres)

Trek is evil.
Klein's paint schemes are awesome.
I hope they comeback.
