I won! (stuck stem)

I just wanted to share this victory, I had a very stuck stem, crazy stuck. I tried all the methods to un-stick it but nothing budged it. so I tried the hacksaw method very carefully, took me about 2 hours of cutting, looking in the steerer tube every two minutes, I almost gave up...went to bed, tackled it this morning and viola! the two halves were easily taped out and best of all not a single mark in the tube. I am so happy right now!!

Congrats! I just won the same battle last weekend!

I went a different route though. Chopped the top of the stem off to remove it from the fork, then flipped it upside down, placing the fork crown between two 2x10s propped up on my garage stairs. I put a long fat bolt into steer tube and beat it with a mallet til it came loose.

I had tried soaking in ammonia first, then liquid wrench so maybe that helped slightly.

I have another frame with a stuck stem, but the fork is much nicer (fully chromed) so I might just pay the $40 to have a local frame builder drill it out.

Heres one link, although mine wasn't that easy.

Winning is fun, especially when there is no collateral damage.

Good work!

Congratulations! Great feeling, isn't it? I defeated a stuck seatpost by similar means, but it was much longer and took about four hours of sawing. Phew!

Removing a stuck stem/post sure feels good, but no matter how good it feels, you never want more.

I bought this 1952 woman's Schwinn Meteor, when I got it the guy before me tried to twist the seat post out and collapsed it. it took me 30 days every day for about 15 twenty minutes to cut it out,,just like you did lol.
