Let's See some Sparkle...

was looking at this one in the garage today while I was working on the 720, and it got me thinking about all the sparkly bikes I had back in the 70's...who has some old school bling to share?

Not the best picture, but I love the opalescent paint on my Maruishi. The sparkles are so finely ground that it doesn't always show up in photos (just looks shiny), but it's definitely there in person.

Bikes: Lemond, Gios, Fuji, Trek, too many to write

Sweeet oshner! More shiny 'uns! When I got my bike powdercoated, there was a little tricycle he just finished and it was sparkly glittery red. A ltitle too much for a road bike but at least I know its possible for powdercoating.

All bikes used to have metallic paint. Now it seems none do.

I think mine were all done at 4MP- not that they're super resolution-y, they more than adequately get the job done.

Hey Scott...if it was bigger I'd send it your way, but it's a really small frame...good thing I got it for free

Finally going to get a chance to ride the Yeti next week. Had my first trip back in the woods last Friday...it felt awsome to be back on a bike. Funny thing is I was going to ride the FRO, but I took the Tesch, since I've had it even longer, and hadn't ridden it yet either...damn old broken bones

I'll def post some riding shots when I get the Yeti dirty.

Thanks Steve-

That's one of "those" bikes for me! The 1984 has the coolest decal set (although I really like the simple 86 "Trek" downtube logo). There's a lot of good choices you've made building that thing! Getting rid of the Duopar and going with XT and Biopace. Beautiful.

Dave

My first reel of Super 8, plus....

The 'rents got me a Super 8 camera for high school graduation- the first 30 seconds here are of my bedroom in 1972, and the Gitane Super Corsa I'd gotten at the end of the summer before when my '68 Varsity had been stolen. It was sorta spakly with those foil decals the French put out then, and purple and yellow tape otherwise.

Other stuff on this vid includes Dad's car wash, that I worked at from 1969 until I left for college that Fall. I was fascinated with the single frame button and pixillation.
the audio track I recorded on a Casio SK 5 sampling keyboard about 1988 and added on. the prank call at the end I taped in Junior High with one of my friends calling another.

Its coming back.
Next random frame I have to paint i think I'll try some of that heavy sparkle paint they have in the auto store now. Big flakes, lowrider style.
