De Rosa Update...

So...against the majority advice, I upgraded the De Rosa to Centaur alloy 10s...but...I did keep the panto'd SR cranks. I ended up machining the small ring 1mm to closer match 10s ring spacing.

I also switched the bars to Deda 215s for a flatter ramp.

I also removed the Torelli logos from the Gipiemme rims and re-laced them with Sapim Lasers up front and a SuperLight hub in the rear with Lasers NDS and DT Comps DS.

She was wearing A23s laced to the 28H Record hubs I got from BG...but...those wheels are destined for a new MAX tubed project.

Though I generally follow the Orthodox C&V line, I think this looks great. Keeping the SR crankset is a nice touch.

I'm curious about the rims. What are they? And are they very heavy? I have a pair of 8 speed Campagnolo Scirocco wheels that look similar, but they're awfully heavy, making a very noticeable effect on the ride.

Looking good on the De Rosa!

Nice work on the small ring placement.

You'll definitely take on more than I will, but it sounds like it paid off.

Can't wait to hear the details of the Max project, but I understand about spilling the beans.

Aaron knows what I mean, but I picked up a "cyclocross" frameset today.

Grady...Is this destined for gravel use? When are you gonna be back on the bike?

BTW...Are you still heading to the Chicago C&V ride??

The wheels aren't part of the update (other than the re-lace)...they have been on the bike since I initially built her up. There is an entire thread with people bemoaning the wheels somewhere around here...

Rims are Gipiemme Tecnos or Torelli Wide Boys (same rim I believe). Gipiemme supplied Campy with the Shamal/Vento extrusions.

They are not terribly light, but not crazy heavy, in the C&V clincher realm.

As built with "modern" spokes and rear hub, the rear is only 20g heavier than the A23/Record wheel and the front is (unfortunately) about 100g heavier. The rims themselves are about 100-115g heavier than an A23.

They ride reasonably well and they look the part (assuming one like's the look).

I ended up with three cracked ribs from my fall.

Right now it hurts to breath, much less riding.

Doc says 2-3 weeks off the bike.

I'll still go down to Almonzo and be the SAG wagon.

I literally know 25+ of the riders down there this year.

As far as Chicago, I am going down there as well, as my oldest has a soccer tourney in the vicinity.

Maybe I won't ride, maybe I will.

...and yes, the "cyclocross" frameset, which is red and white, would be perfectly suited for gravel roads.

One way or the other, it will be going in for a repaint with Chris Kvale this fall.
