Flex? Why would anyone want their cranks to flex under load?

Right, they're completely snake oil. If they make you feel faster, that's great, because you will feel faster. And if it didn't, you could sell it on ebay. :thumb:

David, if the twins make you feel faster as well, all power to you. But in certain situations, faster is not better.

I have the feeling they would make me rather TOO fast.

I have no idea! The product information makes no sense. Clearly it looks like the three kink crank arms would increase crank flex. It almost looks like a couple of wiseacres decided to see what kind of wild scam they could pull of on the bicycling public. Prolly snake oil.

A long time ago, I would estimate in the mid-eighties, Winning magazine had a humor article in which they added every "high tech" aftermarket bike product that added a supposed advantage to a bike, then they test rode it and gave the results. I think they started with Dave Leteri's old track bike, added the PMP cranks, and automatic transmission and a whole host of equally useless products.
In the end, the test rider crashed the bike and there is a parting picture of it being thrown into a dumpster.

All quotes below from: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/PMP_crk_ad.htm

From company ad: "The L-shaped design increased the pedal propulsion power and lessens energy dispersion on the downstroke."

"1981: Soviet Olympic team commissions study by East German Sports Academy to determine extent of functional advantage of new bent cranks. To cover bets, Soviet applied mathematician carries out extensive analysis (256 pp of equations) to optimize shape."

What I really really want to see is the Miyata/Shimano AX ersion of the bent crank arm:
"1984: Miyata introduces Shimano AX aerodynamic bent cranks with concave pedals to match. Availability is restricted, and interest is intense."

The 1984 U.S. Olympic team apparently wanted some of that snake oil, as they tried to get some of these cranks, but could not find funding (maybe b/c they over budget on the Huffy bikes.)

More really cool and bizarre crank designs here (check out the chainring with spokes for spider arms):

Welcome to boobfest 2012.

Did anyone get the e-bay link for the bikini twins auction ?
If it's not ended already with a buy it now, I might want to bid.

I think the cranks are now listed at a ridiculous bargain price
of only $1,199, plus shipping.......and that's a buy it now price.

Somebody really ought to jump on those (the cranks, not the twins
..................OK, maybe the twins, too:o).
