Tressorex, tressostar, velox, cat eye, have been the brands.
you can always buy cotton twill tape in bulk,
dye it then apply adhesive yourself, rubber cement.
or perhaps the shellac lovers can use the shellac to hold it in place.

So I read through a few posts about bar tape but I did not see anyone mention a tape that has built in tacky feel. The original tape found on my Peugeot PKN10 was thin but tacky, almost like friction tape but no black residue. I bought Newbaums and it is not tacky. By chance is Tressitar or Velox tacky?

Just google "tacky feel handlebar tape", there's plenty. Here's the first one that popped up.

I had maroon Newbaums on my commuter from June to January and it held up pretty well. On my Centurion I have a great red colour with just 2 or 3 coats of amber shellac on red Newbaums. I wanted a nice brick red and the shellac darkened it and brought it away from pink just enough without straying into maroon territory.

I think colored bar tape can look great, or terrible depending on the frame color/decals.
If the decals dominate the frame, bar colors can take away from that and look strange. I’m a big fan of black with black saddle or brown with brown saddle. That match works on most frames.
This super clean frame looks awesome with yellow tape and the yellow top tube highlight though. It’s giving me ideas.
