I reviewed that bike just to look at the details, not too bad, the chrome is on its way to a total loss though.
Currently there is a buy it now or make an offer on this old Masi:

Too big for me to get excited about.

I saw this the other day and sent a link to my brother, because it would fit him perfectly. However, he's a poor college student so I imagine all I did was annoy him. I guess if I could afford to buy that, I could afford to have it replated and then send it to Singer for new lettering.

Few bikes set me going like old French randos, but I'm coming to the belief that they're overpriced in general. The Singer in question comes with mostly awful 70s parts and obviously needs a refinish - and the pitting might be so deep that rechroming is out of the question. And from a practical POV, even once refinished and re-equipped with good quality parts from either an older period or a newer, the cost (and performance, and appearance) will be the equivalent of something available from any number of today's custom builders.
So essentially, the buyer is paying for the name. That makes sense if it makes sense, but it seems to me that mostly, it doesn't.

Buying a name, yes. An advantage for resale. Not much else.
I watched a couple of complete no-name Italian cambio corsa bikes not sell for 1300 and 1500 respectively. Then there was the restored Bianchi Folgare frame only cc go for 2400.

The above referring to the Green Masi Speciale Corsa on auction with the "rubbed" away paint.
The seller acknowledges the problem, with the other purchases he has made over time that were misrepresented to him, perhaps his reasonable straightforwardness is to be commended.
If the bike were smaller by 2 to 3 cms I would consider having it refinished it the orange-red of the period, with the transfers being saved except for the reynolds 531 transfer which I would replace.
The fork crown might have been chrome originally too.
With that in mind, the asking price is aggressive.
But, these do not come up very often.
