The "Trek In A Box" Bottom Bracket

When did Trek start using the bottom bracket with the Trek in a rectangle logo?

i think it may have been when they came out with their investment cast lugs in the mid 80's. i could be wrong on this.

there are people here who are more informed, or at least more confident than me about this . i'm sure you will get a more replies.

I have seen 85's with this, I know my '83 600 does not use it, and IIRC my '84 model 760 (built Oct '83) did not have this, either. I'm not 100% sure on the 760, and it's sold. It's possible that Trek introduced this on different models over several years though.

Bikes: many

I'm pretty sure my '83 760 had it. My current 84-ish 770 or 660 (not sure what it is) definitely has it. I don't recall the serial number off-hand, but will check and confirm if you need it. (Another reason for my generic serial number database idea. It can help answer the "when did manufacturer X do Y?" questions.)

I have it on my 1985 620- but it wasn't on my 1984 420- but the 420 was made in Japan.

No real need, more like curiosity... I was trying to think if my 79 736 had that logo on the head tube lug- and I think it does, but it for sure does not have it on the bottom bracket.

That was around 1983 when we started using lugs and BB shells designed in-house by Tim Isaac and cast by Signicast in Milwaukee instead of 3rd party components.
