And my understanding is that the ban arose from a dispute over alleged selling without upgraded membership. To help solve this problem I will pay to upgrade his membership if he unbanned (for one year only, I am not made of money. After that he is on his own).
It is the least I can do.

Absolutely correct. We don't arbitrarily ban members, and opening threads to lobby for their reinstatement actually reduces any probability that they come back. The only people that get the axe instantly are spammers, and if a member gets banned over issues, it's after many, many chances. We don't enjoy banning people, but sometimes we just are left with no other options.
