Which PX10?

I'd like to get and customize a Peugeot PX10. I can be patient and wait for exactly what I want, but I'm not sure what that is. I would like a later model with a bottom bracket that isn't french or swiss threaded. I've heard of deluxe models too. Is there a site dedicated to PX10s where all this info is together? A mechanic at a LBS told me my Triathlon is essentially a PX10 frame. Is that true? Can I stop looking?

Bikes: 1980 Masi, 1984 Mondonico, 1984 Trek 610, 1980 Woodrup Giro, 2005 Mondonico Futura Leggera ELOS, 1967 PX10E, 1971 Peugeot UO-8

The French BB is not a big deal. You can get one from www.velo-orange.com. It does not cost more than their English BBs.

How do you want to customize it? As a road bike, it will be hard to find a set of components lighter than the original ones, and in few cases will you find better ones.

I'm not familiar with the Triathlon model. I think it's later than the classic '60s and '70s PX10s that I am familiar with. It might not be similar to those bikes. First of all, those were fully double-butted 531. Many later Peugs were not.

Happy reading!

Triathlon model came in mid 1980s, was Super Vitus 980 tubing, different from PX-10.

Good luck being patient.....I've been looking for my ideal PX10 for over 6 years. In reality you want a '85 or newer fully lugged Reynolds 531 or Columbus SLX. Peugeots nomenclature changed a little around this time so it could be a PX PZ or a PY.

Custom paint and index shifting to start with. I'm also looking for a donor bike for a full group. Hopefully, I might find a Dura Ace bike, if not on CL, then perhaps at a police auction.

While not a deal breaker for sure, I can buy a Shimano UN26 cartridge bb with English threading for $10. Velo Orange price on their French BB is $50. While Velo Orange charges just as much for their English BB as a French one, there are plentiful other options at a small fraction.

The V-O price is quite reasonable IMHO when you consider it is a small production part, and one made to replace parts that have been obsolete for 30 years. And on a high end bike like the PX10, you probably would not use a $10 bb anyway.

You may not need a replacement BB anyway. Quality BBs can last a very long time if properly maintained. The same goes for headsets.
