65er definitely picked the right bikes to build them around - I'm building up a Kuwahara and it definitely lends itelf to being built up into a Thunderdome/California Love machine...if only I lived in a jurisdiction that wouldn't frown upon me strapping a lever gun sheath to the bike....

I was thinking the exact same thing. Now that I know it's just not inserted, I can see that there's a blinkie light mount on there.

If anyone wants roller cam brakes, Loose Screws has NOS Suntour XCD brakes for sale. But be quick because they are shutting down soon.

I installed mine and it does work in place of a U-brake.

Sorry if I missed it but what bars are you using on that 29er. I like the width, shallow drop and short extension.

Not quite vintage unless you consider the fact it's a first year Pug and one of only 600 made... I did fit some vintage Suntour barcons and an XC sport derailleur as a tensioner.

granted, i havent looked through all 83 pages of this thread, that will take me a while
I recently acquired some 46cm wide drop bars, that I'm wanting to install on my 2013 Hard Rock sport disc 29er. I already have some 2.2(3?) tubeless Nobby Nics on it. It's also getting converted to Tiagra 9 speed road shifters (which I already have) and I'm unemployed at the moment. Soooo, it may be a while. Need a short 31.8 stem, a chain, and a 11/32 9 spd cassette.,,,,BD

My point being I will definitely post pics... In the meantime I used the last of my store credit and put a Rock Shox Reba RL on it. Night and day difference from the original Suntour XCT? fork, in both weight and performance.

That would be a perfect ride for our river route along the Mississippi river.

Pure muck down there due to recent heavy rains, but I would put money on this one making it through.

Super practical with the rear rack as well.

Very cool.

That's a cool bike! Could you explain what you've got going on with the gearing on it? Thanks, Mike

It has a 3 by 1... runs SS hubs front and rear and has a triple crank to make it a 3 speed.

The front and rear wheels on a Pugsley are both 135mm spacing and can be swapped so you can run a combination of drives... you could have a cassette or IGH on one and an ss freewheel on the other as a backup. I don't swap the wheels and have a White Industries freewheel off the back which is great for grotty weather as it is a sealed cartridge unit.

Planning on getting a cassette wheel to really expand the gear range although I like the gear range I have, it gets me everywhere I need to be.

Just thinking that I might want to pull stumps at some point...

It was pretty much ideal for the Pug as it gets a little better ground clearance and as a tensioner it is awesome... I have a cassette wheel coming and it will handle that just as nicely.

I had this old XC for years and when I was playing with tensioner options (I need to use a derailleur) it was the perfect choice.

I was wondering why that triple was back there. Nice idea.
BTW, great color on that Pugsley.

If I could buy a bike right now a Pug would be in my top 3 for sure, so much fun to ride.
