Thank you for your interest, all. No progress this weekend, but I should fix the interference between the chain & retaining nut today.

You aren't going to claim this is the only derailleur you've ever had that problem with, are you? Ghost shifts were a feature common to all derailleurs I've every tried if they weren't adjusted perfectly. Which is... well, most of them, at one point or another.

I could readjust and readjust, and the derailleur wouldn't stay where I put it. I'll try it again if you want me to.
