I recently bought a NOS Campagnolo Victory crankset. The crankset it self is beautiful, but I noticed that it didn't have the Campy engraved chainrings bolts; instead it had some unmarked chainring bolts. I've checked around and I haven't seen any other Victory cranksets like this. I bought from a very reputable web store but I'm still wondering if the original Campy chainring bolts were harvested to be sold separately.

If you bought it NOS, it should have the Campy chainring bolts with it. I would speak to whomever you got it from. I've never seen any Campy non-engraved chainring hardware, so I wouldn't think yours are genuine Campy.

When you post but I noticed that it didn't have the Campy engraved chainrings; I assume you are speaking of the bolts?

If you bought a NOS crank set, and it wasn't disclosed that the rings and bolts were not original and proper, I'd say you have an issue with the seller. Unless you got it for a steal, I'd return it or ask the seller to supply the proper rings and bolts.

The truth may be somewhere in between. When the crank was made Campagnolo was stamping the chainring bolts. For those who really really want to know it can either be Brev. Camp or Pat. Camp. and I never cared to remember when the change took place. But, later Campagnolo stopped stamping them, maybe after the patent expired. So, they may well be Campagnolo chainring bolts and nuts but just not from that era.

Good point Repechage. I suspect Victory should still have stamped bolts, but not sure. Are the chain rings suspect too Onespeedbiker?
Or just the bolts? I inferred from your post the rings may not be original but could be mistaken.

They may have come with unmarked bolts.

Thanks for your response (and everyone else). No, the chainrings are spot on as is the rest of the crank (with the left hand one-key removal system). I emailed them and they responded but thought I was complaining about the crank bolt (no Pars, I had it right in the email ) so I still waiting for their second response..

You're probably good. Like others more knowledgable than I have said, I'll bet by the time Victory group came out, they supplied plain bolts.

Well, I contacted the place were I bought the crankset. The owner said up til now he didn't notice. He said he bought a number of the Victory cranksets from the same place. He checked the last three he had in stock and said one has the blank chainring and two have the "Brev" CR bolts. He offered to have me return the crankset and he would send me one with the "Brev" bolts and I've taken him up on it. I'm still not sure how the blank CR bolts ended up on the Victory crankset, but I recently bought and resold a well used Victory crankset with the blank CR bolts. Both these chainrings were dated 1984 and I am told that all the Victory cranks bought by the seller are the same year; 1984 was the first year of these cranks so one has to wonder if Campy made some change or if some middleman was harvesting the OEM CR bolts for a short time..
