Where to find vintage C-Record (ca. 1992) chainring bolts?

Would anyone have a source for finding vintage C-Record (ca. 1992) chainring bolts (dual chainring)? I've looked on eBay and they look a little iffy to me, so if there's somewhere else, please do tell.

Thanks so much

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

I'm not familiar with Campy cranks of that vintage but is there anything unique about those bolts? Would any Shimano, SR, Suguino, etc. bolts fit?

Don't know, but i'm pretty sure they're special. I took it to a couple of bike shops in our area, and the reactions were the same: "oh no way we don't have those. it's been over 20 years since campy made that part. but sure is well built."

one of the shops showed it around to the mechanics and they all took turns feeling how much it weighed.

I believe the crankset was the last of the items produced by Campy to use the "C-Record" moniker. The c-record crank was produced until about 1995 and was then redesigned (according to belobase). From the bit of research I did, it seems as if other parts in the group slowly lost the c-record moniker as parts were redesigned and were just called Record until the C-record name was totally phased out.

It is my understanding that there is nothing terribly special about the chainring bolts except that they were made by Campagnolo. If you are not doing a period restoration or are otherwise OCD then you should just find other 2 part chainring bolts that fit and can be properly tightened.

***There is one caveat to this, the C-record crank had a 4 arm spider and the 5th chainring bolt screwed into the back of the crankarm very much like all the Record cranks that followed to the present. I am not sure of the thickness of c-record chainrings so you may have problems finding a bolt long enough to fit in the position behind the crankarm.

Trial and error may be your best bet for this project if you don't trust what you have found on ebay.

I concur with "greenfieldja" that Ebay is the only place to find a set of Record C chain ring bolts. Just make sure that the hidden chain bolts is included.

You might try getting ahold of Peter at Vecchio's in Boulder, CO. He runs C-Record on his personal bike, and they seem to have deep stocks of Campy parts. Maybe try Branford Bike as well.

The 4 exposed bolts are nothing special, just use whatever double chainring bolts you can find. I believe the 5th hidden bolt is a little longer so you may need some type of bolt from a triple ring crank.

OE bolts? Good luck, eBAY or a donor crank.

great suggestions, I appreciate it. i have not heard of those sites, so will definitely bookmark them.

by the way, to prevent the chainring bolts from falling out again, do you guys use blue colored thread lock (loctite or something) on alloy bolts? or is that a no-no?

Avoid the Campagnolo allot bolts. They will break very easy, don't ask how i know.
Loctite is not necessary, just torque down enough and they will not fall out.

I was having trouble with the Campy bolts on my modern Record [11 w/10s rings] crank, and found that anti-seize has been the ticket (so far). Different configuration than the '92 version, but worth a try.

thanks again all. ok, so it looks like (just for getting things straight) i've got the 1994 C-Record group. I guess that was the last year of C-Record (found the info on campybikes.com). My carbon ergopower shift levers helped me date my group (funny how time flies, it seemed like just yesterday I was picking up the bike from the shop).

I'll post a pic or two once I get it back from an overhaul and after swapping out my old scott drop-in bars for something more stout but with the classic drop.
