1970? Dawes Galaxy
I was recently given a early seventies Dawes galaxy. It is all original. It has simplex derauillers and simplex downtube shifters. The stem and handlebars say british made all over them. I forgot to mention that it has some rust spots. It also has a Messenger saddle which was possibly original. One of my major problems with it is that most of the Dawes handle bars had these cool engraved designs on them. For some reason mine doesn't. However my handlebars do say british made just as the stem does. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Take and post a few pictures of the bike, including a close-up of the crank set. Also, does it have a Reynolds 531 label on the seat tube? A Messinger saddle? Original? The Galaxy was a nice bike that could be used for touring back in those days. A nicely broken in Brooks B-17 leather saddle, or similar type, would probably be a better choice (IMHO). A nice set of vintage SunTour deraileurs would also work out better for you than the old plastic Simplex stuff (IMHO). The SunTour Power Shifters would also be pretty sweet on that bike (IMHO).
