I think in mtb years it is vintage the velocity of innovation since then has been remarkable.

Threadless+cantilevers makes me think late 90s. Is that an stx RD?

1996 that model came with the Answer Manitou. In '97 it switched to a Rock Shox model.

I was hoping y'all would know what it was. I was sent these pictures from a friend who ran into it, thinking I might like to pick it up. I can't really tell what anything is because the pictures just aren't very good.

Is it a decent MTB?

i was gonna say mid 90s at latest since it's got suspension fork but canti brakes

Is it a decent MTB?
I don't know the line up in 1996 but Apex was right under Axis in terms of high end MTBs from Diamond back. I would buy it if the price were right

I was guessing a year or two later but you look to be right on the money. The fork, RD, and shifters seem to match.

I used to have a bike with the same shifters and RD. I really don't like grip shift but it functioned well and I don't recall having any issues. If the price were low enough it should be decent. You may want to check on the fork however. Make sure it works or at the very least make sure parts are available if it needs rebuilt.
