Where can I find the plastic snap-in cable guide for the Vitus 979? Thanks!

Bikes: Too many to list here check my signature.

A snap on? It has been awhile but I thought these used the type with an expander screw something like a hollow wall fastner.

Try Bike Tools Etc, Loose Screws, and Harris Cyclery. maybe one of the many Vitus lovers will have a better idea.

Bikes: 1986 Alan Record Carbonio, 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7, 1984 Peugeot PSV, 1972 Line Seeker, 1986(est.) Medici Aerodynamic (Project), 1985(est.) Peugeot PY10FC

They pop up at eBay once in a while and they are usually very afordable...something like 15 - 17 bucks, sometimes even cheaper, NOS. The CLB made BB shells on the 979s and the Carbone bikes just have a hole at the bottom for the BB shell in which a short stem with a very slight mushroom head on it (IIRC) on the guides pop into. No screw is required to mount them. The tension from the derailleur cables mostly keep them on.

I have one I would be glad to send you. Forum member VJP gifted me a Vitus cable guide for use with a non-Vitus frame, and it didn't fit my frame. I would be glad to pay it forward again. PM me your address (you may need to make 3 more posts).

Btw, some BB guides use screws, but I believe the OP is correct that the Vitus guides simply snap in place and then are held in place by the cable tension.

Correct, but if you're concerned you can drive a small wood screw into the center of the mounting peg to make it expand slightly to hold it in place even in the absence of cables.

^ Or you can get a bit more creative, and cannibalize a spare Christmas tree light bulb (which is what I ended up doing on my Look, as it does not have threads for a screw--a perfect fit).

Thanks for all the replies! These are all wonderful options for the cable guide, particularly the DIY bulb.

^Not bad for the cable guide, but $70 for a set screw! I need (want) one to replace the ugly bolt I have in there now, but not that bad! Wish they had a pic of their Vitus bar tape, that has me interested.

Bar tape must look like this:

I snagged this set a couple of years ago from eBay. Very similar to cork tape but with a more velour-like slightly fuzzy feel to the surface. Very much like the padded taped that Sampson used to sell.
Keep looking in Ebay for the Vitus seat post binder grub screw. It still pops up every year from a regular seller (I think it was "casanova9898") for I think about 25 - 30 bucks.

https://www.giroposte.com/ used to have them, send them an email they have parts for those frames.

Saw for very long time those vitus BB cable guides at ebay, bad luck looks like they sold them all.

Anybody got a pic of one of these? I have an unidentified French cable guide in my parts stash.

It is greyish/silver in color. IIRC, it says "VITUS" on it. I can post a pic later when I get home.

Here's what the the genyoooowine Vitus cable guide looks like:

Used on both the 979 and Carbone models as I think they share the same CLB BB shell design. The one in the pic is what is on my Vitus Carbone 7.
Hope you eventually find one for your bike!
BTW, the hole you see right next to the word "Depose" (above it on the pic) is actually where the stud is that goes into the BB to locate the guide properly. It is hollow so it can doulbe as the drain hole for the BB if water gets in. These cable guides usually get lost/separated from the frames when a seller dismantles the Vitus bike and unintentionally takes it away from the bike with the derailleurs and cables as the guide clips on to the cables with the small tangs you see in the guide's grooves. So it is always good to check if the guide is still with the frame if one is considering buying a Vitus 979 or Carbone frameset.

compL33Tazn,

If you are still looking for a Vitus BB cable guide, there's a couple for sale at eBay today....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Vitu...item564bedb70f

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Vitu...item4abb14091d

They are slightly different from each other, maybe because of production date or subcontractor source differences but they both should work.
