Eeek, that's just scary! Whatizzit, eel? I really like sweet potato fries too, haven't had them in awhile. I've never really tried baking, other than prefab pizza, & such, LOL, but my Mom was an excellent baker. I've been thinking about trying my hand, to see if I got any of her baking genes. I love cornbread, especially with chili, so I bought some cornmeal just a couple days ago. I need a couple more ingredients, then I'll give it a whirl, squirrel.

Yeah, now that's how you eat herring. I know some fishmongers that secretly curse the poor huns that order their herrings sliced, with a little fork and diced onions.

Ummmm. Sweet potatoes. My in-laws eat them roasted, as the dessert course. It and the white potato changed the world. Read 1493. Wonderful book.

Actually, the "good" sweet potatoes are also white. They look quite a bit like a normal potato, but when you bake them, the sugary stuff just oozes out.

Those are "Bombay duck," a type of lizardfish. They're imported from India, so you know they're fresh My market has an amazing international selection, and the seafood counter usually has some eye-opening stuff like live eels, turtles, and Vietnamese mud crabs, as well as a crazy array of fish.

This was last nights diner., grilled horse mackerel with brown rice, miso soup and vegetables.
As (almost always) it was very good.

Very nice. What is the vegetable in the soup (not the tofu or wakame)? And what type/brand of rice does your wife prepare?

If I'm ever in your neck of the woods I am inviting myself to dinner at your house as I'd never have another opportunity to have some of the dishes prepared at your place.

Nice! If you like oats give Bob's Red Mill 10 Grain Cereal a try. Add some honey or turbinado sugar, berries and chopped almonds and it's a great breakfast that sticks with you a while. As a bonus, Bob's is a big sponsor of many bicycling events including various cyclocross races.

We have a local "guys" cooking club with 6 members including a couple of chefs. We take turns hosting themed dinners and tonight, it's nomadic food. My offering is goat shank tagine with onions, dried apricots and dates. The young goat meat's been marinating in North African spices for a day and it's just going on to the oven for 4 hours. Carrots go in later, then garnished with lemon rind and cilantro.

The rest of the menu includes a gypsy stew, Indian corn pudding, lamb kofka, flat breads, roasted veggies and finally for dessert, goat milk, sweet basil and honey "pot de creme" with stewed wild berries. Lot's of wines to match. Life can be tough.

Oooh, that goat looks REALLY good. Not really related, but kinda, I had a genuine lamb chop last night, with brown rice & carrots, that was really good. Lunch today in a few minutes will be pre-fab burritos with sour cream. Quite a contrast in quality, huh?

One of my favorite meals to take along is just a simple chunk of fresh french bread and a good cheese. It's quick, easy, and tastes delicious to me.

Back on that Asian kick, I got some Honey Sesame Chicken at Uwajimaya's today, & brought it home for dinner. Was excellent. They also had a killer deal on both pork butts and pork shoulder. I couldn't make up my mind, so I got one of each.

I agree, good bread and good cheese can make a good meal.
I am now living in Gouda, the cheese capital of Holland, there are some good cheese shops here.

Early dinner today was that pork butt (which is actually a shoulder cut) with a big bag of baby carrots, and some Red Shell sesame soy sauce. The pork is so tender, you can't pick it up with a fork, it disintegrates. De-e-elicious, and I'll be eating it for at least a couple more days.
