That sounds familiar... I think my parents tried it on their last vacation. So how would you describe the flavor? Rich?

This is where my command of the English language reaches its limits :(. I would say it's sort of bitter-sweet, but it's not a very strong flavor. The Dutch blood sausage tends to be a little bland, compared to the French and Spanish variants.
Anyway, if you like food, this is a must-try.

While we're on the subject, this is one of my favorite applications of blood sausage: filled with tongue.

There's a recipe for Boudin Noir here, Colonel. Also see Kisca, Sanguilla, or http://www.food.com/recipe/red-boudi...sausage-104491. Lots of steps, lots of trouble to make, and it messes up every pan in the kitchen, just like Lasagna. If I run across Mama's recipe, I'll pm ya.

It's something I've considered, but its appeal is limited (pretty much just me) and we already make many varieties of sausages including sweet Italian, hot Italian, Andouille, Kielbasa, southern breakfast, Bratwurst, and Boudin blanc. In recent years it's sort of a marathon long weekend process and I have a lot to do. I haven't bothered to render lard and make cracklins in the last few years due to lack of time. I'll look into it, though, and will likely give it a go at some point.

Interesting, about the sausages. :) I grew up in PA, & anytime we went to Pittsburgh, we stopped out in the country, at an Italian butcher's. We usually got several boxes, of different ground sausage patties, and lots of cheese. There was one type of sweet sausage patty, with mozzarella inside that was my favorite. :)

This week was our 11th wedding anniversay. As is our tradition, we went to one of the best Japanese restaurants in Holland (maybe of Europe), they even have a Michelin star.
I took some pictures, but forget a picture of the starter.

ColonelJLloyd 06-27-13 09:00 AM

Ditto that!

Congratulations, Paul! If that's what you ate at your eleventh aniversary, I'll be looking forward to the pics of your golden anniversary diner. ;-)

Two egg and cheese sandwiches on fresh bagels. I had never picked up fresh bagels from the local shop. I've had them a few hours old, but never within an hour of coming out of the oven. They are really good.

Went to a party for my friend's 30th birthday yesterday. He had the coolest cake I've seen and I was very surprised to find out that it tasted great. Someone brought mojito Jell-O shots and really put some effort into them.

cobrabyte 07-13-13 02:59 PM

Oh it's home made, but not bt me lol. I picked it up at an asian farmers market this morning. The guy in line in front of me was buying a bucket full of the biggest live bullfrogs I've ever seen!

Not exactly lunch food. I tend to eat them at all times of the day when I make them though. Most of my pains au chocolat usually fall on their sides. Oh well, they still taste yummy. :)

non-fixie 08-02-13 09:22 AM

Good stuff, guys! Keep it coming.
cobrabyte: what's in the sandwich?

@cobrabyte: what's in the sandwich?

Left over pulled pork from the day before. Topped with onions, pickles, cheese & a fried egg. Tasted better than the previous nights dinner lol
