First ride together with mrs non-fixie of this season. A loop of about 30 miles, with a hamburger and fries at Loetje's for lunch halfway.

I forgot how everyone else eats. I think if I ate most of the food shown now, i would get major indigestion or worse. Hats off to you guys.
Lunch today was 180 grams of spinach and broccoli mixed, 50 grams of salmon, 60 grams of blueberries and 160 grams of 0% plain Greek yogurt. So, not C&V, but helps keep the C&V guy moving. |

It takes me about two months to forget that, and order the next one, because it looks so good. |
The weather is nice and sunny today, albeit a little windy. Another opportunity for a thirty-miler with my better half and lunch along the way. This time the Dutch version of the hamburger: a 'meat ball with bread'. The experience was the opposite of the one with the hamburger in post # 726: it didn't look very special, but it tasted delicious. Served with mustard, sweet & sour Amsterdam onions and a small potato salad. Perfect.

Mrs non-fixie and went for a ride today to have a look at at Tour de France, as it passed only 20 miles from our home. On the way back we had a late lunch a a local establishment that served its own version of the - definitely C&V - club sandwich: with smoked eel and salmon. Very nice!

I have never tried eel, but it is on my list (yeah, I must be American). My neighbor actually believes that if you cook an eel and put it in the fridge overnight, it will come alive. And he has only "heard about it", but is certain that it is true.:p

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Grotefoto-SFDV3A37.jpg Eels are scavengers, and with all the environmental-friendly efforts we've been putting in lately, our waters are becoming too clean for eels. They're getting scarce and more expensive, which is a shame. I think your neighbor needn't worry. Although eels are notoriously difficult to kill, once they're dead they tend to stay dead. And even if they came alive, they wouldn't hurt you. (Unless you were dead of course. Then they'd eat you. :)) |
No pic, but I had a delicious steak and mesclun greens salad with smoked plum, nuts, a bit of oil, a bit of parm and a touch of salsa verde. Plenty of black pepper. Simple and delicious.
Still trying to acclimate my taste to seafood. I'm a ways off from smoked eel. |
Fruhstuck - The hefe weizen is already in my belly, weiss wurst, pretzel und Spetze.

Talk about classic food! Nice! Seems like some Bavarians kept you you busy all day. :)

That reminds me a bit of Panetone... Which would make a perfect snack to go with my C&V ride... If I just knew some place to get it. I think St. Louis Bread Company (Panera) sells it around Christmas... Now, if only they were less than 100 miles away. |

Last weekend I came back from 3 weeks in Japan.
The food over there is so good. Here is one picture of a lunch we had: http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...psmfgz9tdj.jpg |
^ That looks yummy indeed!

A week in Tuscany is always good for some more C&V food, so here we go:
Tripa alla Fiorentina, tripe cooked with tomatoes and basil and, in this case, served with white beans. Delicious. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Grotefoto-SHBLLPYK.jpg Crostini Toscani, hot chicken liver with olives and anchovies served on toast. A personal favorite since I first tasted it. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Grotefoto-QVKDMDFN.jpg Tonno di Caniglio, rabbit disguised as tuna. What a treat! http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Grotefoto-ANNT7U7B.jpg |
Keeping it on the continent: Rindersoftgulasch und grüne sosse (beef stew with Germany's famed herb and sour cream "green sauce"):

^ That looks really delicious! Where was that served, if I may be so bold?

Fajita steak makings (strips of grilled steak, peppers & onions; rice & black beans, avocado & sour cream; flour tortillas) from Baja Fresh in Hunt Valley, MD, with hot sauces & tortilla chips.
A long time favorite that is still delicious. |
