Bahn Mi Vietnamese sandwich.
I cant believe a sandwich could be this good, especially a three dollar sandwich. My favorite eating neighborhood in Denver is right around the intersection of Federal and Alameda. Lots of Chinese and Vietnamese with a bunch of Mexican mixed in. Best of all, it's all really cheap. Not such a good area for bicycle riding though. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...5&d=1347482217 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=272515 |
+1 for Banh Mi sandwiches and for Salida too

Another example from last week. A small French town, one auberge with a terasse full of locals. We ordered the menu de l'auberge. The starters and main course were nothing special, but were brightened up by a bottle of excellent Cotes de Provence rosé. The desserts, however, deserve a place in this thread. A very tasty tarte aux pommes and a perfect crème brûlée:

We ride C&V bikes, like to wear C&V clothes, drive - or at least admire - C&V cars, and some of us even have C&V SO's. But does it extend to lunch? For me it does. Whenever I am on the road, I prefer a classic, usually an "uitsmijter" accompanied by a glass of milk. An uitsmijter consists of a couple of slices of white bread, sliced boiled ham and two fried eggs. It was introduced to our low countries in the nineteenth century, and is believed to have come from Germany, where a similar dish is known as "Strammer Max".
This is one I devoured recently. A rather luxurious one, with three (!) slices of bread, three (!) eggs and cheese. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-OKJKKDCT.jpg Am I the only one? |

Not lunch, necessarily (we'll see if there's any left over by noon tomorrow), but my GF baked this pie complete with bike-themed decoration.
The letters match those engraved on the fork crowns of our respective C&V bikes: 'M' for Marinoni and 'A' for Atala. They may also happen to reflect our respective initials... And what could me more C&V than home-baked pie, right?: http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=272733 |

Having leftovers of Roast Duck with Orange Bourbon Molasses glaze. (Yes, the potatoes were cooked in duck fat. :thumb:)

Growing up my old country grandmother made German pancakes in her basement summer kitchen and it was always a contest to see who could pack away the most; the only topping permitted was her home-made raspberry syrup. We still make them at home, especially for big gatherings and drive-by relatives and friends, but the topping repertoire has expanded considerably with the passing generations in addition to relying on a well-seasoned pair of iron skillets and the butter in the batter to cook the cakes instead of a heaping teaspoon of Crisco to add 'richness' to each one.

Chicken on a raft and SOS are manly breakfasts involving glop on toast.

Ok, I took a shot at making lunch today. I wasn't entirely sure what I was making but I am happy to say that it was ok. It was a step up from eating the usual stuff from a box.
Phase 1: Sourdough bread, Egg, Serrano, habanero, Jalapeno peppers, hot sauce, salt and pepper. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8317/8...ecbaaf67_c.jpg DSC00408 by mkeller234, on Flickr Phase 2: Turkey and Mozzarella cheese http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8306/8...b8e18731_c.jpg DSC00409 by mkeller234, on Flickr Phase 3: Cook on George Foreman grill... even I know that is weird. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8440/8...3bcc4943_c.jpg DSC00410 by mkeller234, on Flickr I wish I had remembered to use our C&V plates. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8034/8...4d61348f_c.jpg DSC00411 by mkeller234, on Flickr |
Looks good Matt. That's not a George Foreman grill, it's a panini press.

Thanks Matt! Not C&V yet, but it looks very tasty and you've now shown it to the world, so who knows, in 20 years or so? I'll be sure to let you know when the "Mkeller234" shows up on the menu next to the Club Sandwich and the Ploughman's Lunch. :thumb:
