Patria--70s?
Can anyone date this bicycle and learn me some knowledge on it?
I've been looking around for a 3 or a 5 speed (preferably English, but German tempts me due to family history)
Basically, I'm wondering if it's worth investing in. It's no Raleigh DL3, but it looks like it could be a fun ride and a good, strong ride.. Am I wrong?

Interesting bike....note the Weinmann "Turbo" (I think its called) rear brake on it. It works by pushing out the brake pads from the fixed caliper arms with a spiral type of mechanism onside those small round drums that unscrews inward towards the rim when the cables are pulled in by the brake lever. An interesting idea from Weinmann, but didn't take off as there were no real problems to solve with the sidepulls that it might have fixed.........I wonder what happened to the front caliper....I would try to find out if it's still with the owner before buying the bike.
Patria must be an older European (I think it's German) brand, but actually, there were also "Patiria" bikes made in the Philippines maybe from right after the war and up to maybe the 80's I believe. I suspect if the factory in the Philippines did not have any family connections to the one in Germany, the the name might have just been "borrowed", but who knows, it might have been connected to the German firm in some way. The bikes from there were mostly made for domestic consumption. The bike in the picture looks very "Euro" though and I don't think that the Weinmann Turbo brakes might have made it to the Philippines in any significant numbers, so its most likely must be a German bike in the pics.

Yea, from what I can tell it's definitely a German bike. I think it has potential (from the others I've looked at on Google Images), but I'm trying to decide if it's worth it or if I should just keep looking for a good Raleigh 3 speed......

I've seen that derailleur before, but I cannot place it (might it be a Huret of some sort?)....I think that most of the components on the bike will most likely be middle range at most as the bike was set up to be a "townie" bike, so it can do with not the best stuff. Even so, from the looks of the components on the pics, they look like they are still in very good condition. The brazing at the rear dropouts look very well and cleanly done. I wonder what brand leather saddle that might be.

As far as I can tell, it's German--but I could be wrong. Here's their website, I don't know if it will be in German for you or not... I put it through Google Translate yesterday and, I don't know if it is still trying to translate, but a few parts are in English (the tabs and the home page). I don't know if that will transfer over to this or not, though.

So the reason I've got any kind of wanting of this Patria now is because of this bike right here:

Think there's any hope in making the one pictured above a twin of this one? (well, as close as possible?)
