Anyone have access to a good hardware store?

My location does not sell M3X30MM stainless steel socket knurled head screws (fully threaded). I'd like to use them as new dropout adjusters. Does anyone have access to these?

I can get 3m screws at my True Value but I am not sure if they have the allen head. I am headed tot he post office soon I'll drop by and check. How many and do you want if available?

Now that I look at the bolt depot site you may be better off buying a box of 100 and reselling them to us at .20 ea plus a stamp. I may actually buy a box of M5 and just start replacing all the ones that arn't already stainless.

Looks like BG has this covered, but I have to run into the shop later to pick up a few things.

I could grab them as well if her stockist is short on supply.

This has McMaster-Carr written all over it.

What are you using for the cap nuts?

You need bolts that are threaded all the way. Most bolts that long have a smooth shank portion. I had to use a thread die to make those work on a recent build.

I struck out. 25mm was as long as they had and that had a small, maybe 4-5mm, section of unthreaded shank. I don't think a short section like that would be a big issue though. I picked up two and even though they are a bit short i am going to play around with them.

Despite living in a rlaltively small city, we have a Fastenal for such situations. Go to their website and plug in your zip/postal code to find the nearest location.

Don't gloat, it's not polite to the less privileged.
Both McMaster and Fastenal have them in catalog and both appear to be completely threaded full length. The price is lower at Fastenal (.21 vs .40), and you can buy smaller quantities than a pack of 25 (McMaster) and you might even have a local Fastenal shop in your town, but I'd phone first since they usually do not stock even a fraction of their catalog offerings.
Stainless is really the way to go when you have these rust-prone applications, and you can use SS nuts on the end, but wouldn't it be nice to find appropriate springs in SS, too?

Edit: McMaster are NOT fully-threaded @ 30mm, Fastenal doesn't say for that length.

I went there hoping to browse. They are pretty much mail order only. They will let you pick up. Biking into Weymouth from Boston isn't easy either. Sort of a nasty bridge coming from the north.

You guys are awesome. Thank you for your help. I appreciate it. I was looking for at least two. 6 would be optimal.

I checked and there's one here! They don't seem to be open on the weekends. I'll check them out on Monday, maybe grab a bunch but would I have to buy in packs of 100?

You could use a dome nut but I'll probably go without it. Looks cleaner.
