I was in contact with form member "kvnmuadib" in freehold, NJ before the storm and sent him some parts. I sent him a msg to hope that he is okay after the storm. I haven't heard back and I hope it is only because he has lost power and hasn't had the opportunity to get online in the mean time and that all is well with him. There are probably other forum members out there who have been offline since the storm and not likely to report back for a while.
Velognome and Noglider are two that apparently are powerless.

We were very lucky, kept electricity, gas and cable throughout. Lost some siding off the house we're renting, but no major wind damage. We're at a pretty high point in Brooklyn so the flooding didn't affect us. The winds Monday night were like nothing I've ever seen in New York. Low-lying areas were devastated, and parts of Brooklyn like Coney Island and the Rockaways were pretty much destroyed. Our prayers go out to those people, and to the first responders who have been working so hard during this catastrophe.

Anyone heard anything from those members we have listed so far for no power or no response? I cringe when I think about what y'all have had hit you. Even after the many I have survived here on the Central Gulf Coast I always get really shaky about the next one. I have heard some say they hope the NY/NJ/CT and Atlantic coast states are getting a feel for what the SE has had so many times. This is just stupid and thoughtless talk (I toned down my original wording out of respect to everyone, sorry), no one needs or deserves to have their home destroyed, damaged of their life disrupted this way. Please stay safe and I pray that the power gets restored quickly with the cold front coming and that food, water and fuel gets through to everyone.

Hoboken - While 3rd and Bloomfield is down about 10-14 feet in elevation from Washington, the streets further west are slightly lower, so I think the water drained away further west. Although City Hall is 3 blocks south, it is lower as well and one block closer to the Hudson River.
West Essex County - PSEG is making progress. My parents got power late last night and I saw 1/2 of their township, 2000 + customers, was restored. Noglider lives nearby in Madison, so hopefully his power will be online soon as well.

I hate to even bring this up, but meteoroligists are talking about another
N'Easter heading for us by about next Wedensday. Goodness, we never see these until at least late Dec., but now 2 by mid November? Unbelievable. Weather is getting much coolee two. Who knows what another storm could bring. I hope they can get power back up before gthen.
Our Mayor also wants to keep the marathon going. Such foolishness during such a major crisis! I'd rather see the runners run into the hard hit neighborhoods with suppplies to help than run a real race.
Thanks to all for ygour thoughts and prayers...

kvnmuadib messaged me today to say he is without power and lost some trees and fence but nothing serious. They are still without power. but have a woodstove and small generator so are doing okay.

While there is no comparable loss of life, all of us folks here in North Eastern Japan will be understanding and sympathizing with those who that have lost their homes. Really! As a community we are still dealing with this 18 months later.
And for all of you who have been, and still are without power and sitting in the dark ... conserving batteries and trying to heat food with whatever you may have — even the luckiest of us here in Sendai understand that situation because we all went through a total blackout regardless of where we lived.
I hope all our members have come through the malestrom safely.
My best regards — in appreciation for all the kind words that we were given here not long ago — I hope all gets better ASAP. — Lorne

My kids and I were without power and phone for three days, but we still had hot water and the gas range still worked; so we were pretty comfortable. It helped that we were to go to a nearby building with an emergency generator to recharge batteries etc. My wife was visiting her parents in AZ all week, now how's that for planning?
Our summer house on Long Island --which is actually ours, as opposed to where we live in NJ-- is another story. Neighbors assure me we survived pretty well; we're a half mile from the bay, and flood waters reached within a couple hundred feet of our house. Hey, a couple hundred feet is plenty, huh? But there is still no power, and no trains running, so it will be a while before I have a chance to go check it out. Bottom line: I am, tentatively, very relieved.

My LBS guys were telling me that they have never had so many bikes in the shop all at once. Many people were bringing in bikes they hadn't ridden in 10 years and saying, "Help, I need to get this fixed up so I can get to work!" Maybe a few of them will continue to commute by bike. I guess that could be one small positive in all this mess.
