Help identifying touring frame!

Hi Kynikos,
I know that this is old but for what it is worth. The serial number is the 1986 format of Merida of Taiwan.
In 1986, brand names were switching Japanese suppliers for lower cost suppliers, usually in Taiwan. I have seen Miyata brand name frames from this period made by Dodsun of Taiwan. I have seen Univega brand name frames made by Merida.
To me this suggests that your frame may be for Univega. I do not know the Univega models.

I never cared about the name of the brand for any kind of fashion statement or whatever. I was just curious about the frame's history and thought it might help me build it up and find the right parts.

Asia, which is All about making for Export, Uses the British BB threading system 1.370" x 24tpi , right side LH Thread, left side RH Threaded.
Drag it by a Bike shop Doesn't look like they masked the threaded parts
so the threads Probably need to be Chased with Taps and reamers such as those in the shop tool Kit to clear them of the powder glazing.
