I,m SO Angry !

I,m fuming, I,m livid , I,m ropeable, and I,ll tell you why, I left a "Carlton" frame with a "Stronglite crank" on it to have the crank removed at the local bike shop, whats wrong with that I hear you say, well, I was stupid enough to say dont panic I,m not in a rush, do it when you are a bit quiet, I,ll be back , well two months passed (I know but I knew the manager) so when I finally went back he had had a row with the shop owner and left, (wait it gets worse) I went in a week after he left and the owner had had a cleanup and THREW my frame out with the trash, I was slightly cranky whats worse is he could,nt care less about it, all I got was a "sorry" but "NO" recompense, sorry about the rant but I had to tell someone who cares !

Oh HELL no. This is unacceptable and you are entitled to compensation. Ring the rozzers, have the bloke nobbled and bang him in the dock till he's gonging like a possum's knickers up the didjabringabeeralong.

unacceptable.

you demand compensation-even small claims court
did you get a ticket with the work order?
that will be critical in your defense

but you should have put a tag with your name on the frame,

the back of my lbs is littered with frames and parts, some of them are the owners and some maybe clients.
he has vintage bikes also,
NOBODY throws anything away but the owner.

the "take your time" was a mistake,
it dont take more then 10 minutes to pop off a set of cranks, you should have waited for it and watch that he actually has the correct french tool.

I was lucky once-I left a very valuable motorcycle frame at the sandblasters with the same attitude,"take your time"
I called him every month to see if it was done, but after the 2nd month I started getting nervous...
I went back and nothing was done, and it was sitting in a corner with other items that looked worthless.
I reclaimed the frame...and was happy I did.

Awesome reply. I think I agree.

I think they owe you a suitable replacement.

Funny stuff, that!

On a more serious note, I hope the frameset didn't have one of those Milremo stems installed! That would really be criminal!

That sucks! I hope you have a receipt of some sort? Paper is very heavy on the scales of justice in small claims court. sorry to hear about this

It was a bailment situation, and the bailor, I believe, is responsible for an item that was in his care, custody, and control. I'd file a theft charge, if they'll take it, and then, like others have said, go to small claims court.

Find your paperwork though.

+1000: Find your paperwork.
You likely won't prevail against him without it.

If you can't find it (or if this schlock LBS didn't issue any to begin with) you can still pursue some compensation legally, but ironically, your chances of success will hinge entirely on his level of integrity/honesty.

Note that this approach will only add to your frustration and raise your blood pressure to apoplectic levels if he bare-face lies about it before the magistrate, and claims it never happened.

Jeezum. Do you have photos of the frame in question? That'll help too. Unbelievable some nitwit would throw something like this away. Good luck.

What?!!!??

He (the owner) has to be reported to the police.

I just can't......I've never......What.......These guys have to be reigned-in. Two 'dicks' working in the same shop.

I'm very upset and disgusted to read your story Ozneddy. Your disgusting treatment is the absolute worst I have ever heard of...ever.

Living in Queensland, like you, I would like to know just which bike shop it is so I never make the mistake of shopping there. I'm sure other Queenslander's would support you by 'black balling' this particular establishment.

Words fail me...I feel your pain! Is there a tall tree, with extra long branches, near the shop?

Not meaning to rub salt into a wound, but I cannot help but agree. By the way, was the crank set gone also?

Are you positive he was telling the truth and didn't sell it figuring no one would be the wiser? Just a thought, hope you can get some relief for the frame loss.

Not sure how it works down in Oz, but in the USA a small claims court summons should get some attention.
Not to mention social media business rating sites, but don't do there, Yet.
Hopefully you have at least a claim check stub, usually they have some paperwork to contact you with.
If you do not have paperwork of some sort... it is going to get a bit tougher.
Hopefully you have some photo documentation of the frame, and noted the serial number.

It would get the attention of the proprietor, I'd think.

I know my LBS has a limit of time you can leave your bike there after restoration/service. He tells you up front. After that period of time he'll sell the bike. I imagine that's typical in service situations like that. He pays a good deal of rent and has limited space. You can't fault his reasoning.

On one consignment experience, the shop got amnesia. Denied ever even seeing the bikes, claimed they didn't take consignments, on and on. Somehow, someway I happened to save the receipt (odd for me). Then the owner claimed it must have been done by this worthless employee he fired, etc., etc.

Of course, the form was signed by the owner himself. Then he claimed some POS bike he had on the floor was one of my bikes (wrong model, wrong year, etc). Finally, he relented and wrote me a check. I raced to the bank to cash that badboy..

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Sorry to hear that. You're entitled to a full compensation IMO.
Most shops I know warn about after 60 days they take no responsability for unreclaimed items, but they warn it in advance and rarely enforce it.

Ive been dealing with that shop for many years and left many bikes with them many times over long periods WITHOUT paperwork so they could fix them at their lesiure knowing full well that everything would be ok {which it usually was) so I dont blame the Manager because he was a good guy, it,s the owner who is the A$%hole , the loss I can wear it,s the attitude that sticks, and Gary we have only two LBS in my part of town, one is for the "Serious" racer and the other is just a shop, why did I go there ? because steve the manager was a "secret c+v nut" I WILL miss him ! am I going to pursue this ? No I,m just gonna take this one on the chin __LESSON LEARNED. BTW guy,s THANK YOU ALL for your support and advice,I really appreciate all your comments ! ------ I luv this forum and the ppl in it !

I would think after 2 months the shop considered it abandoned? I doubt there was any malice going on. I wouldn't leave anything of mine somewhere that long, unless I was prepared to pay a storage fee and the length of time it would be left was discussed beforehand.

They should at least replace the frame or offer you something equal to its value out of goodwill.
