Boy, your going to have to do an awful lot of laps around that little island to wear out 4 sets of tires. Your going to get real dizzy!

Don't forget patch kits! And if you're bringing three freewheels, you may as well bring some extra chains, right? And handlebar tape, too! Can't let that Mondia get sloppy on D.G., can we? I'm sure we don't even want to get you started on shoes.

The List:
- Extra chain (pre-oiled in a Ziploc baggie)
- Two extra pairs of toe straps
- Three extra pairs of toe clips
- Two patch kits
- Two extra sets of brake pads
- Two extra sets of derailleur and brake inner cables
- 20 cable ends
- Four rolls of black cloth bar tape
- One extra Campy seat binder bolt
As for shoes, I'm taking three pair - the Sidi touring shoes (no cleats) and two pair of cleated shoes (Dettos and Sidis). I have about 4 pair of cleats for those; I expect to do most of my miles with the touring shoes and do the races with the others.
My pack-out for the Diego Garcia shipment is this coming Monday, so I've been getting everything together this week. I hope I haven't forgotten anything

You do, of course, realize
that by posting that you had enough spares and tyres for the time in purgatory to see you through safely, that you have now cursed your self
, don't you? Its like pitching a no-hitter you see
, you don't talk about the feat until it is done and in the record books
. Oh well, I can see the posts about having a freewheel sent to you
on the rock.
Anywho, how is your day Senior chief?
Hope you get in as many local rides as you can before launch date
Bill

Here's the address for me out there, but I think I am set (although, as Bill has suggested, I may have jinxed myself...)
ITCS Jeff Rumbold
NCTS DET DIGEO GARCIA
PSC 466 Box 8
FPO AP 96595-0001
Why am I not going to use a single-speed? Well, for one, that would mean buying yet another bike - or converting one. For another, I will need a bit of a range of gears when I tote stuff out to the other side of the island on my snorkeling trips. For the final call, however, it's simple: I like derailleurs

Bikes: Indeed!
Those of you of the Regina persuasion may find this helpful:

It's tacked to the inside of this box which I acquired a quarter century ago from a fellow who just couldn't stand to see it go into the dumpster. It had a certain sentimental value for me since it used to have a place of honor next to the Campagnolo small-parts cabinet in a bike shop where I worked in the mid-seventies. The prices at the bottom of the sheet are pretty amusing from the vantage point of today... but remember those are 1975 dollars.

Funny thing is I took this box to a few bike swaps in the nineties and no one was in the least interested in it. In all fairness I should admit that it's practical use is pretty limited. It has been pretty much stripped of all of the most common cogs for each cog position. All that are left are the odd sizes.

PastorBob, offer me something interesting in trade for it: It's only gathering dust in my basement!

Obrentharis,
I fondly remember the Suntour (I want to say this was the brand, but it has been over 30 years now) and the Regina cog wall boards in my LBS, a Raleigh and Motobecane dealer. Those prices are exactly what I had to pay for each cog I purchased while I sought the perfect set up for my International or Super Course. the owner's son was the head mechanic and he would install the cogs for me while I waited in the showroom and drooled over the upper end bikes I lusted for. That box is beautiful, I'd love to keep one on display, like a wall hanging C&V bike. Thanks for posting the pic.
