New-to-me Klein Quantum

Friend of mine made me a deal on this for my first road bike and I couldn't refuse... Everything is 600/Ultegra. Really just needs new tires, some lube in the shifters, and for me to figure out how the heck to set up the front derailleur

Crappy picture:

I'm finding that there isn't a whole ton of info on these bikes out there anymore. I'm aware of the bottom bracket and the headset, hopefully those don't come back to bite me

It's out there if you look. Perhaps not all in one neat little bundle

There are ways to deal with the headset and BB issues too...might not be inexpensive but if you like the frameset it'd be worth it. Of my two Kleins the oldest is just modern enough to be Chehalis-made, yet have normal BB and headset. Hmmmm...why did I pick 2001?

Rotate the bars down, too. If you need them in that position, then the bike's not the right fit for you.

Yeah, somebody else told me that. They were rotated down for shipping so I just put them in an arbitrary position for while I was working on it.

Not that I would have known any better anyways, lol

Bikes: 99 Klein Quantum, 2012 Cannondale CAAD10 5, Specialized Tarmac Comp, Foundry Thresher, Fuji Sportif

BB and Stem issues??? The Quantum use either a 1" or 1 18" headset depending on the model and or year. Stems can be tough to find but I've not had problems finding a headset. As for the bottom bracket, what is the issue there. I had to replace one about 10 years ago and had that one rebuild this year. Are they getting hard to come by?

Sweet bike BTW.

I guess the issues I was thinking of were more the proprietary nature of some of the parts. Bearings for the BB are readily available, it's just hard to get the old ones out. Same with the headset, nothing wrong with it its just a nonstandard size.

Wow, that's a nice Klein! Love the color

Here's a link to forum member Diabloscott's blog...it has a wealth of info on these awesome bikes. He was able to figure out the year of mine using the serial number.

I have to admit I am curious what year mine was made since the seller didn't specify. My wife was pissed when I told her how much I'd spent on a 20 year old bike, she didn't believe that I'd made a steal

Nice Klein, I have admired since the first one I saw in a Bicycling Magazine article in 1978. should be a great bike that will last you forever with maintenance. Enjoy!

Where is the serial number? Acording to DiabloScott, 1989-1990 are located on the bottom bracket, with 1991 and on located on the bottom of the rear dropout. Hope this helps
