I've wanted a Cellini since 1964. Chances are ..... SIGH!
So the answer to the question is 5 years. No quest or protracted was hunt involved. It sort of found me as I cruised through auctions. OK ... I've not built it yet, but I have collected all the parts. The size should be perfect. I love the color and graphics. The hand-braised, Reynolds 531C frame with a pinned BB should be sweet. Campy Record hubs on tubulars, a SunTour Cylcone drive-train and Nitto other stuff was assembled as part of a budget, otherwise I'd have pursued a contemporaneous group. A lot of these bikes were assembled in some flavour of Campagnolo. She is a GAZELLE AB, c. 1980.

I continue to look, and have a short list of stuff I'd go gaga over, but I stay open to what I find and don't seriously look for anything.

The only bike I ever really fixated on was a Motobecane Grand Jubile when I was in high school. I was one happy boy when I brought it home. Still have it!
That was my only grail bike, since then I have just chosen from whatever has come along. I don't think I was specifically looking for any of the bikes I have bought since. There are so many nice ones around that there is plenty to choose from, and I enjoy a surprise.

My dream bike as a teenager was a PX10. That was the mid-70's. (Yeesh, never thought that would sound so long ago.) I rode nice Japanese bikes through the 80's but that darn Peugeot was always in the back of my mind. I finally got mine maybe five years ago, rode it pretty regularly for a few years and then she became a garage queen. Bikes are meant to be ridden so we parted ways this past summer so that could happen. It was a tough separation but for the best.

_dylan, As it turns out I had mine all the time, '89 Cannondale CR300. A perfect fit and I love to rail turns on it. Problem is I may find a wheelset I like, for example, and start thinking about what I can build around around them.

PS Really I think I have my grail bikes in three different catagories; road, mountain and touring.
