Bikes: Still a garage full

What's your excuse for letting project bikes stack up?

Since the beginning of the year, I've bought nine bikes, 2 for my fleet, and 7 to flip. Like several other contributors on this Forum, I have more than a garage full of flip candidates and other fleet projects. Below is my excuse for letting these projects languish.

Maybe because it's winter, I've been focusing on a different kind of tubing and wrenching, but good for my health as well. I moved in November to my 1924 duplex and February has been unofficial "plumbing month." I just finished with the major repiping, ripping out the galvanized pipe and replacing it with new copper. It consumed close to 160' of copper, a new water heater, toilet, sink, 13 new valves, and a bucket of fittings. It's nice to have a Famous Hardware Store with great service and inventory within walking distance.

Any BF member owning an old home, I highly recommend the upgrade, so you can "Drink to Good Health!" At least, drain your water heater and replace the anode rod.

Hopefully, soon I will be in full swing on the bike repair stand as I just ordered a bunch of parts!

Right now, bikes are easier to buy than sell. I have about 7 bikes to sell. Turned down a nice '60's vintage Murray 3 speed because there's no more storage room!

Just not enough time, the correct tools and knowledge, and trying to get the $$$ to get the right parts. I have grand ideas, but not as much in grand financing and time to get the job done. I also focus on too many things at once in my limited time. Instead of working on one project bike, I work on a bunch a little bit at a time.

I'd rather be riding them than working on them.

Bikes: to many to list

Thank gob my home is only 53ish years old! and the family that lived here before me (they bought the home new) took VERY good care of it! New plumbing, new water heater, new electrical box, new roof. A tip on the Anode Rod, we have never, ever, use hot water for preparing food. As for the bikes sitting in my garage, I just took on to many projects without the time or funds to complete them all.

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.

Laziness. Sloth. Lack of get-up-and-go. Strong affection for naps. Take your pick

Good tip! I learned that from the pre-purchase inspector who inspected our house. He said they're optimized to prevent rust just long enough to get through the warranty period, then bam! Water heater's toast. So by replacing the anode rod frequently, you increase the life of your water heater indefinitely.

Oy, my house is 118 years old! I don't even WANT to know what some of the piping looks like. Fortunately it had all be replaced at some point, at least it's all copper.

Bikes: Raleigh Supercourse

My work area is a complete mess. I've gone out there 3 times to clean up, I'm easily distracted.

Spent weekend cleaning up spouse's debris. Found another house project too, toilet tank to bowl gasket is suspect.

Bikes: Are several.

While I have space for bare frames (in a tight little nook by the heater and hot water tank - coincidentally) and parts (starting to get nicely organized after moving) - and even for wheels (which are about the only thing of substance I can fit past a narrow gap between washer/dryer and wall into the crawlspace under the stair in our apartment) - I can't fit any more complete bikes.

In truth, I've actually been doing a lot of building recently (putting stuff together out of storage), though I may be at my limit now - especially with the Shogun triple-triangle I picked up this weekend to make two bare frames plus a complete bike still in transit from Montreal. So I guess I need an excuse (or a better one)...

Avoid buying all of those flip projects in the first place.

Bikes: Two wheeled ones

I think our home is about 130 years old...I really hope Brita works.

As far as needing excuses, I only need to justify bike inventory to potential creditors.

Tight now i have none stacked up. But last summer I was up to 8 at one point and live in 1 bedroom apartment I just found a bunch of great stuff for free or close to all within a couple weeks time.

The sun's in my eyes. But, seriously, it's still too cold to work out in the shed.

I only have 1 bike in the que right now! (knock on wood) And it should be my last full build for quite a while (again knock on wood). But it's been sitting for a few months now... and I really haven't done much with it, between migraines, working, and my other hobbies there's just no motivation!

I temporarily lost interest in working on my projects, but I've recently caught my second wind and hope to make some progress before it gets too hot to work in the garage. Fortunately for me, the queue is down to a manageable size.

Do I build with what I have available, or do I blueprint my projects and piece them together as what I want becomes available? Lack of affordable parts is really holding me back. That and lofty dreams. Plus the fact that I hate selling, but probably should move some things along.

Hear, hear about lack of affordable parts!....
Parts/component prices have been driven up drastically by mega price sellers in the last couple of years, now my stash boxes cannot be replenished as easily as I used to.....
