Sorry, another "is it a px-10"?

i just listed this as a prn-10e. but someone wrote in saying it's a px-10. are they right? it does have the reynolds sticker with the diagonal 531 and chrome simplex stays. but the fork doesn't have a 531 decal on it. but now i'm realizing that the prn-10e doesn't have chrome stays. thoughts anyone?

Yes it's a PX10.

Non Reynolds Peugeot forks have a seam along the back of the legs.
Reynolds ones don't.

Definitely a PX10, and the hanger is unmolested. It would be a huge bargain at the starting price, but it's not going to sell for that. I'm predicting at least $300.

Looks like my '75 PX10. A little on the tall side, so I tried to sell it - for months - with no takers, at $300.
Then I decided to keep it, and I'm glad I did.

By the way - that hanger has been molested. The stop as been removed (same as mine).

Hey! Maybe it IS mine! I better check the garage!

So this needs the RD hanger replaced? Would that screwup the paint? I kind of wish it was 4cm smaller

Can it really be a 63? Sure doesn't look like it in the pics. What size is yours, Auchen'?

Also, I'm a little confused Auchen'. What do you mean by "the stop has been removed"? If I'm not mistaken, there was no stop
on the bottom of the hanger, but they were ground in when they were Drewed. The one in the auction looks to have been tapped out,
but I don't see any ground flat on the bottom of the hanger. But it's difficult to tell.

Unless I'm mistaken, BG, no...it doesn't need to be replaced. A Simplex derailleur should still fit, I think, but I'm not sure how a derailleur with standard 10 X 1mm bolt would work unless a stop is ground on the bottom of the hanger.

You are correct rootboy - I was mistaken. For some reason the PO ground a flat on mine which just coincidentally aligns with the integral stop on the Altus LT derailleur.
(I should have looked at my other PX which retains its original Simplex).

My white PX is a 63cm. The one in the auction looks to me to be the same size.

OH right because a Simplex drop of this level/age has no stop correct? Also I got confused with Auchen's pics and thought the threading was removed or really buggered up.

Hi Bg , These Simplex drop outs don't have stops on them. The simplex derailleurs have a little plate on them that does the same job as a stop on a drop out.

Really? Wow. My eyes must be deceiving me. The head tube in the auction pics looks so much shorter to me.
I'd like to see a pic of the bottom of that hanger. Does it look like it's been tapped out to anyone else?
And if so, which derailleur with a threaded mounting bolt would work on it without a stop ground into the bottom of the
hanger? A simplex with integral stop plate? Then again, maybe it has been ground.

I will take a closer look at that hanger later and take some more pics. Maybe I can try to screw in a simplex derailleur.

i had a suntour cyclone derailleur lying around and it screwed in just fine. i don't have a simplex to try. so does that mean that the threads have been changed? it doesn't look like someone cut something off, or, if they did, they did a very clean job.

Thanks for taking those pics, many b's. Nothing's been cut off, thankfully. Typical modification involves tapping that hole, which originally is smooth bore, and grinding a notch in the outside radius of the hanger, to act as a stop for derailleurs like the Nuovo Record, etc. Yours hasn't been ground, however. A good thing.
I'm not sure if Sun Tours require the notch. What derailleur was on the bike when you found it?

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

You should be able to mount a Simplex or a SunTour derailleur w/ relatively little fuss.
