Raining free bikes!
Last week my daughter came home from the local Farmers Market with a present. A 70's gaspipe Sekine that's in remarkably great shape. She told me someone was giving them away (for a $5 donation) and she thought I'd love it cuz " I could always take the parts off it". I need it like a hole in the head but what a sweetie. I rave about it and we all feel good.

I went to the market this morning and there's these young bike turks giving bikes away again. I spot a Columbus Zeta tubed womens Gardin with indexed 6 speed thumbies, Rino/Excel/600 parts, a Bob Yueh rack and very cool ITM bars. I ask them what size of donation they'd like. $20 they suggest so I give them $30 and my daughter now has townie Gardin to match her road Gardin.

These kids are on a town sponsored program to build and maintain some new trails and they've been actively soliciting old bikes as donations, they tune them up and flip them quick. While I'm standing there, a guy walks up with 2 more donation bikes, a mostly original, good condition 80's Norco mtn and a killer 58 cm Benotto road that's almost all Gipiemme. I didn't want to be too greedy and I'm not usually a flipper so I ask for and receive the Norco for another $20. I left the Benotto for another bigger guy.

My spring acquisitions are complete.

That's cool -- sounds like you raised your daughter right.

+1 Nice finds!
Got two bikes free this week myself. Nothing special, but both had nice saddles and other parts I could use. Then what's left will go to the co-op.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.
I solicit (and receive) free bikes through CL. Then I tune them up and give them away - also through CL - or if no takers, the local Boys and Girls club. I get mostly Xmart BSOs. But recently I got two Shim 600 Arabesque-equipped Ross Super Gran Tour Professionals.

They are not especially "Gran" or "Super" or even a little bit "Professional" but the one in my size was interesting enough to me that I offered the donor $50 for it, suggesting I might actually keep it. The donor said "Just take it."
