Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Good price for that bike. Thinking of making it your next painting project?

Yes, it will definitely need some work but at that price I think it is worth it.

I think you should buy it on principle if only to fix the handlebars (Graeme Obree notwithstanding).

Seems a great price on a pretty decent bike.

Bikes: Still a garage full

I think it's overpriced by at least 33%. Besides poor overall condition, wheels don't match.

sarcasm? how do you know the wheels don't match? the front tire needs to be replaced to match the rear gumwall, it probably needs an overhaul (like all good bikes), white bar tape and housing, hoods, clips/straps, etc... but if i paid $100 for that bike in seattle, it would be a good deal and a fun project.

$40 in this case looks like it gets a decent frame and many hours of hobby time. I'd look at it for that price if I liked the frame, I guess.

For example, on the same craigslist, there's a Triumph 3 speed for half that ...

and what looks to be a pretty decent Nishiki International that at 7x the price will possibly be cheaper in the long run:

Just got it home. Ended up getting it for $30. Paint is really bad but luckily I happen to have some paint left. Need to find the decals. All the components will clean up nice. So new cables, bar tape, new saddle and tires I think it will be a decent bike. Thanks for the encouragement

I figure if you do 3 sets of 30 every other day, you'll have decent guns by winter.

I reread my last post and realize it didn't seem very positive. Glad you got it, and at $30 I don't know how you go wrong.
